this 16.5 is an unofficial story by the author? or the other way around?

Technically the events of 16.5 are canon, the chapter was part of the series when it was just an online novel series. But they couldn't carry it over to the actual published novel of course.

SAO is already a tested novel before it goes into a light novel series it's a series of web novel which turn into popular and been licensed. If it's only in original terms. Accel world is his first work which he published that he didn't need to write all from nothing.

Only few changes from the web version.

Please forgive me for what I'm about to say, but... three words.
Spoiler for possible action:

Getting back on track, I've always hoped, yet feared the day SAO (and AW) became anime. And yet, here we are.

Oh well. Not going to raise my hopes but I can't help it, really.

Dengeki Bunko's December book list has just came out and unfortunately SAO Vol. 9 won't be released this year. We will have to wait for next year for Vol. 9. Besides, this also means the 4-month cycle of SAO novels release has been broken because according to this cycle SAO should be released this December but it's AW instead that will be released this December. It's understandable because the 9th volume will be the first part of the longest arc of SAO, Alicization arc. Kawahara-sensei will need some time to recreate and improve the story from the web version.

Which means that it'll be a good chance to catch up before volume 9's released.

Well I guess you can call it a general discussion thread for now. After all thats what it would turn into if or when it gets it's own sub-forum...

It may be a relief to hear about your comment about SAO's future director and character design but I still won't put too much hope on the anime seeing that many anime adaptations of light novels did not produce good results. Maybe it's due to my fear of SAO being ruined like ItsuTen. I don't want to get a heartbreak when SAO really gets "ItsuTen"ed (you get what I mean).

It depends on the studio. Btw which studio will handle SAO? Sunrise will handl AW so I don't have problems but if it's Zexcs hahaha

Well I'm not familiar on what is the name of the company that publish SAO or rather I don't know the publisher. We can get a clue if we know. Usually certain studio gets their material in certain publishers.

Also A-1 has a lot to spend with Uta no Prince-sama and the iDOLM@STER doing pretty good sales-wise.

Anohana alone would last them a few years.
