personally saw it as a case of dual protags in my eyes, the boy is special, the key, while the glasses having the bigger goal and drag the boy towards it, it's a typical case of goal driver and follower dual protags. The guy is too involved to be a mentor character. Look at Chrome shelled regios, fonfon and Nina is pretty much this type. The boy is probably the main -main, but glasses is definitely also a MC. Pure mentor is like AM from BnH
