She blushes all the time - it's her Achilles' heel, a surefire tell. He's just always too mired in his own misery to notice.

Nishikata has won a number of times, critical hit was the best of them.

Sure, she blushes a lot, but I don't think she does it that much in front of him. Take "Critical" for instance. She only showed a proper blush beyond the slight rosiness she always has after he ran away. This time she was looking right at him with a big blush.

Nah, she blushes in front of him all the time but her mystique in his mind makes him oblivious to it. Both of them would be terrible poker players - but then, they are thirteen.

Hmm... I can't recall her blushing in front of him. The slightly-rosy cheeks don't count since they're an absolute constant.

Well, she actually sent a selfie of herself blushing in the messaging chapter. And she heartily blushed at the end of the (anime-original) school trip chapter. Just two examples.

It's time for uniforms to change again, which is the perfect opportunity for more teasing between Nishikata and Takagi...but Takagi actually gives Nishikata a casual win because she was late changing to her winter uniform (and of course she wanted to change at the same time he did), but Nishikata can't leave well enough alone and of course has to challenge her to a fight he should know by now he can't win. And Takagi uses it as an excuse to get him to want to warm her .

I think I remember the schoolgirl trio wanting to change their uniforms at the same time, but Sanae didn't get the memo because Mina's text didn't go through. I mean, I don't blame her, but unsurprising that she couldn't keep her sleeves up in solidarity when it actually got cold .

Just look at the way Takagi looks at Nishikata when she sees that he's lonely. Of course she goes out of her way to each lunch with him, even if she says it's to tease him more (even if we all know she just wanted to keep him company). And she got to make it look like she was going to feed him, which definitely put some nice ideas in Nishikata's head .

Man, Sanae has Takao whipped. And she's not about to let him make fun of Mina .

UFO's are a common topic with kids, but it offers up an interesting segment where, for once, Nishikata and Takagi don't challenge each other and instead just play around together. Takagi going along with what Nishikata wants to do and the pair just having fun together and shooting the breeze about UFO's. And Nishikata ends the segment happy they got a good picture while only Takagi realizes they actually saw a real UFO .

Classic Takagi to make Nishikata think she was waiting for him at the bath only for her to instead have planned it so she would already be in it and done by the time he was done .

Was there any doubt Nishikata would lose in a contest of making each other blush? Especially fresh from the bath Takagi. But that look on Takagi's face when he just casually offers to walk her home and she suddenly turns and looked shocked was utterly priceless, even if he doesn't realize how much of an impact it made .

There was so much to love about this episode. The bathhouse segment was definitely the best one. Blushing Takagi is... not really that rare by now, but always a treat. Regardless, challenging her to a blushing contest was foolish. If Takagi is the teasing master, Nishikata is the blushing master.

The ending of the UFO segment was surprising. And we got Takagi cosplaying as Lum thanks to it.

I'm pretty sure the Mina bit was almost the same as one from a previous season, but we got some cute Konomi Kohara sounds out of it so it's cool. Can't wait for Shamiko's return!

I'm stopping you there. Teasing him was definitely also one of her objectives. Just not the primary one.

The UFO bit was fun. In a sense another win for Nishikata. He got his picture and Takagi had to at least adjust her personal views on UFOs. Of course this guy only wins in ways that he doesn't notice or can't accept because it is embarrassing. But, that's the status quo for these two.

Good moments throughout. No question that Takagi can't help herself in teasing and that is a motivation for her. But it isn't the only thing either of course. Mixture of motives there . But makes it fun to watch for sure.

Takagi should've take that offer and let him go with her, but I'm sure she was too red and didn't want nishikata to notice lol.

If only Nishikata was aware of all of the sleath wins he keeps on scoring.

Takagi was very bold this week in this week's s3e4

A lot of it imo, went over the line of teasing to outright flirting

They really felt like a couple during the UFO scene .

Honestly speaking, I'd say more than half of her "teasing" is basically just flirtation, and blatantly obvious at that. Nishikata's just the only one who can't tell the difference.

Teasing pretty much is her way of flirting.

Which is totally realistic for an 8th grader.

The funny thing is that for all she seems in-control, there are plenty of times when Takagi could advance her larger objective by hitting the brakes on the teasing, but she cant help herself and hits the gas instead. Its like her blushing at key moments - shes still a child and not nearly as assured as she projects. Its just that Nishikata is even more still a child than she is.

I still remember in season 2 when she handed him almost all the drinks she had because she was so happy that he asked her to the festival .

I was trying to figure out what Takagi-san AU we had stumbled into until I realized we weren't watching a different version of Takagi, we were watching her (and likely Nishikata's) daughter! Said daughter who seems to take more from her dad personality wise (while having her moms looks) and an inverse of her parents relationships where she wears her heart on her sleeve while having to contend with a stoic boy with a poker face who she can't believe is in love with her because of how he acts around her...even though her mom and her gal pal are pretty direct with her on what that means, and her mom is talking from experience .

Turns out Takagi doesn't like energy drinks, but she does like the idea of cooking for Nishikata, so he has that to look forward too .

Man, Sanae is an ice queen. She has the boys intimidated, steals Mina's gyoza for herself, and then she gives a melon bread in apology...only to ask for more gyoza .

The schoolgirl trio really committed to selling and making this play as the class' thing for the culture festival, complete with a full presentation and cardboard cutouts about a gender-flipped Romeo x Juliet/Princess and the Frog mash-up. But the class seem into it as much as the girls are .

So no surprise they went with Takagi as the princess, she's the ideal female lead, and no surprise that Takagi couldn't help herself by pumping Nishikata up with a challenge so he'd commit to being her prince...although considering how much him calling her "my beloved" left her speechless, maybe it's for the best that Nishikata didn't get the role otherwise Takagi would probably not be able to get through her lines .

I love how they knew from day one that Takao would be the villain and Kimura ends up being the prince because his heartbreak over not getting his fried chicken idea for the festival means he can channel that loss into playing a prince in love with a princess .

Nishikata challenges Takagi to a fishing competition, not knowing she's used to handling fish at home and is a natural at fishing, but the real highlight is when Nishikata snags the big whopper and almost falls in before Takagi grabs on to him from the waist and keep him from falling...and watch how quickly Takagi rushes away from him when she realizes what she'd done and the glimmer in her eye, you can tell she did it so instinctively and was actually embarrassed about it afterwards, even if she still has her poker face on. And it definitely had an impact on Nishikata .

Takagi is thankful the fish let her hold Nishikata, and she's doubly thankful to have Nishikata as her partner so they can practice her lines and she has a private audience to Nishikata being her prince .

The episode starting with a Chi segment was unexpected. I mainly know her as a kid from the spin-off (read a few chapters here and there), it was amusing to see her older and teased by a boy (Sanae's kid? They have the same dead fish eyes). They haven't revealed who the father is, but we all know who it is.

The rest was the usual Takagi greatness we're used to. Takagi is chosen to be Juliet and she naturally wants Nishikata to be her Romeo so she challenges him to a contest to get what she wants. Unfortunately, Nishikata loses as usual. It's entirely Sanae's fault though. Yukari is a known Takagi x Nishikata shipper, and Mina was also on board.
Takagi still found a way to get close to what she wanted by having Nishikata help her rehearse as punishment for losing the fishing contest (boy, that was great too).
