(L+CR) Hanyo no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogi Soshi (Inuyasha's sequel)

Granted, these boards are long past their heyday, but even elsewhere I see very little talk about tis show- at least among Westerners. Can't speak for the Japanese.

Despite getting a second cour, is it time to classify this under "Bad fanfiction writing"? or at least, "meh-level" fanfiction?

Hard to call it an improvement in any way when the original was VERY popular (I mean, Robot Chicken even did a parody of it many years ago!) and I'm hearing nada about this sequel.

And yes, I am basing it all off how much discussion I hear around a series. And about this series, even on some of the big Western discussion boards... no discussion at all.

Basically, the latest episode appears to have a little popularity... because of the return of the old cast. When the main cast of new characters get overshadowed by the old cast to breathe a little life back into a series, you know that a series has failed. For another example, see: UQ Holder. Which started out as its own thing and then got sidelined once the old Negima characters really started showing up. But that's another can of worms on its own

And you think if Inuasha was aired NOW it would all over boards? Not a chance. Look on Ushio no Tora practicaly everyone can confirm it was good anime, but it didn't make any buzz either. there is lot of other well loved animes or mangas that simply don't provoke avid discussion. Being talked lot also doesn't make good anime in first place. If it did SAO would be best anime ever.

And let's be honest Inuasha had lot of flaws. Obnoxious main characters, repetative generic plot (first third was collecting mcguffin, and rest was killing Naraku. THREE TIMES), lot of fillers and it lacked world building. Yashahime actually fix lot of those and is generaly better thought through.

UQ Holder was also initialy good (if nothing else it did get better job working with it's characters), but it went down relatively quickly

Nah, in my opinion, "bad fanfiction writing" is when you make the original characters look terrible compared to your Mary-Sue self-insert OCs. Case in point: Maleficent and Shin Tenchi Muyo

I don't think Yashahime is nearly as awful as that level. I mean, those two things make me wanna die. lol

Nobody in Yashahime acts OOC. The writers do know how the characters act and would react. Yashahime is even quite enjoyable at times and I think the daughter trio can carry the show on their own.

Uh that's not a "flaw". That is your opinion. Inuyasha's main characters are very beloved by millions of people.

If it did SAO would be best anime ever.

SAO definitely IS one of the best anime ever.

They are loved despite being obnoxious (I don't dislike them either and it was nice to see tharm again) , not thanks to it. Also I am not sure how should I answer claim SAO is actually good. It can be enjoyable at times, but writing definitely has lot to be desired.

Anyway no...I never thought Inuyasha or Kagome were 'obnoxious' characters. Kodachi from Ranma 1/2 comes to mind far more than anyone else Rumiko Takahashi has created. That's an obnoxious character.

Whether you or anyone else enjoy SAO and whether it's best anime ever are two completely unrelated things. I certainly don't think what I said ruin anyone peaceful enjoyment.

Edit: I don't think Kawahara doesn't deserve money he earned or that people who watch SAO has trash taste (I myself liked GGO arc a lot), but I wouldn't be able make point about works with flawed writting still being able being massively popular, if I didn't use example that is, you know... popular. I could probably use Arifureta witch is currently airing and have following I guess, but it isn't as good example imho, due having only fraction of SAO following. FREE!! is another example I could use. Maybe. But thing is I never got far enough to be able tell. Symphogear, but I don't know if it isn't already forgotten, or Twilight, but that one isn't anime...

I mean, it is really just... okay. The writing is average, there are episodes that are just monsters-of-the-week, the antagonists are not attractive, etc, etc.
But it isn't fanfiction anything.
Whether it is popular or not doesn't necessarily reflect if it is good or not.
