The creator herself distinctly requested that the vast majority of people involved with the original anime adaptation of Furuba not be on this project, so if you don't like that change, blame Takaya. :P

Fruits' mangaka mentions she's supervised the new anime to ensure all details are exact to her manga, down to character colour design. (Ex. ensuring Minagawa Motoko's hair colour follows the indigo-blue of her manga design, over the brown of the 1st anime.)
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/int...change/.145187 She also made a pointed comment re. adaptational faithfulness: "There are no people involved in the (current) production that will just make selfish decisions about the characters and story and move forward. I'm so relieved...since not everyone is good at that." |

A few other rigid cases I recall include: - Tsuda Masami - the mangaka was very angry at Anno Hideaki for making Kare Kano's anime more lighthearted and comedic, because she wanted more drama and intense romance. - Tanemura Arina - has famously stated she never wants to see anime adaptations of her manga. Rumour is she was disappointed at how anime of her earlier works, Full Moon O Sagashite and Phantom Thief Jeanne, failed to properly adapt the heavy drama and angst she likes to blend with otherwise fluffy-sounding shoujo stories. BTW, is Takaya still working full-time or part-time as a mangaka? Last I heard the serializations of the Fruit Basket sequel manga were irregular, and she still hasn't resumed Liselotte and the Witch's Forest since 2013. |

That and... No offense to Yui Horie, but it's been nearly two decades. I honestly don't think she cold pull off the same kind of performance in the present day. That's just me, though.

I love Hocchan, but Manaka Iwami also sounds pretty perfect for Tohru. I would say the same for all of the new voices so far.

Wow. Color me surprised. After the break-up of the Funi-CR alliance, I didn't expect this. Maybe this was put together before the break-up? Regardless of the reasons why it happened, I'm glad it did.

First episode is out on Crunchyroll.
It's been so long since I've seen Fruits Basket but this gave me a very familiar feeling again. Welcome back Tohru! I think her new VA can work for her character. In the meantime, we got to see a little bit of her past. The show retains its lighthearted humor as I remember from the franchise. Yuki's club of fangirls are also here already in the first episode lol Nice to see some important characters like Yuuki and Kyo showing up too. Great start, can't wait to see more.

Well... that was a faithful adaptation of the previous first episode, almost scene by scene. I hope there will be a little more or maybe they'll just push through the character introductions during the first run. Glad to see this series get an update.
I have another series I'd like to see redone with some significant editing... Ai Yori Aoshi. |

Unlike most people, I went into this completely blind. I had of course heard of the series before and knew it was very popular, but I never really looked further. Just told myself I'd read the manga someday, and never did.
I was under the misconception this was an ordinary romance story, so I was quite surprised by the first episode. I didn't know about the supernatural elements, and it's quite clear they're going to be an obstacle to the romance, since apparently none of those bishounens can touch Tohru without turning into an animal. The other thing that surprised me was the heroine living in a tent, it may have surprised me more than the other thing in fact Tohru seems like a really likable heroine. Maybe too perfect? We'll see. Her mother was a total MILF. Damn you, truck-kun.
