It wasn't sudden though. That was the reason they purposely postponed and took a while to decide the date for the match. Remember the end of episode 8, Sora complaining that the EF were taking a long time to send them a message with the date?

The Warbeasts have never lost a game, and even go as far wiping the opposing players memories of the game. They were highly confident (not to moment arrogant) in their chances in wining for good reason, so it find it hard to believe they would have anticipated losing when there is no precedence. Did Sora really unnerve Ino so much that he entertained that idea even after all precautions when the conference ended?
wow, didn't expect that. that didn't happen in the novel with that kind of ending but its still promising for the old deus to show up. Well she is a miko and miko should be able to communicate with gods.
Perfect ending with perfect animation and perfect editing of unneeded scenes. Its a perfect adaptation.

Anyway, so what does it mean that the warbeasts self-rule but are still under control of the Elkia Kingdom? What actual power does the Elkia have over the warbeasts if the warbeasts are still just governing everything themselves.
The Warbeasts have to share their land and resources. Before the game, if Imanity wanted to farm there or buy stuff from Warbeasts, they couldn't because it would be completely off limits.
Just think of the result as an extension of what happened to Jibril and the library.

They kept winning because the video game was heavily rigged in their favor. Just look at it: the game blocks out magic. Ino is watching the opponents and spoiling all their plans to Izuna.
People unfamiliar with the nature of the game would lose their morale when it looks like Izuna is reading their every move.
As with most final arcs of LN adaptation I wonder how much was cut.
After it aired, I went and read the chapter(s) it covered. Not much was cut overall, but here's what I recall that was cut:

After the game, Izuna didn't believe Sora so they had another duel. Literally, it was a wild west theme. If Sora won, he had to tell Izuna how everyone would be saved. If Izuna won, she had to become Sora's friend. So it was a no risk situation for all involved. When it started, Izuna didn't have any fight in her, so Sora taunted her and said he was disappointed, which caused her to fight for real. Sora pulled off what they did in the anime with the dodge by not dodging and double shot, but instead of Izuna double-firing it was him who double-fired to win.
Since he told her under the oaths, she believed him, which were the "words" he told her that the old man wanted to know in the bath.
Instead of Miko appearing to them, she sent them a letter and Jibril teleported them all over, which incapacitated Izuna and the old man due to heightened senses.
And as stated, afterwards they did try to pet her tail, but she avoided it and said they'd have to challenge her again for the right to do that. So, they went to town and started petting girls. No, it was not "near rape" petting, as Izuna went with them and told everyone how good their petting felt. Apparently she was notorious for not liking anyone's petting but the old man's, so this convinces a lot of girls to allow it.

Think of it like a coalition or a merger. Elkia is the primary controlling party, but they don't own the Federation.

I guess they are still technically ruled by Imanity, but given autonomy status.

Also Sora has the option to reject her challenge if she demands too much.
Which was why the last Imanity King bet it piece-by-piece and Sora was able to do it in one go with their Race Piece.

Well about what I expected. A half-baked emotional catharsis for Izuna that moved no one, an anticlimatic finish to the epic fight that makes the usual "keikaku doori" seem tame, and more random bath scenes just because.
About the only thing I can say is that it's a miracle upon a miracle that humanity managed to survive at all before Tet created all these rules. These other races are over powered beyond belief. Ofc victory is preordained for our main characters so no problem. If they make another season of this, I hope it's not for awhile. I would prefer this Madhouse staff to work on other things, since if nothing else it had good direction and visuals.

I give it 10/10 because it's a very entertainment anime, I would definitely watch it again, The characters are very likeable Jibril best girl!

I smell a bit of original there, but honestly, it's not that crazy for Blank standards, so I'll let it pass.
What can I say about this episode but JUST AS PLANNED Sorry, team fluffiness, but Sora and Shiro are always a step ahead, and really, that's how any and all battles are won in the first place. The only part that might have been a bit dissappointing was how Sora won the coin toss, but only if you don't remember what happened during Steph's losing frenzy: The rules are the core of any game, and in this case, nothing in them said you were forbidden from moving your feet a little or that you lost if it altered the tiling

The moment LN translations advance is the moment I shut myself from the rest of the world to read. Once again, it's not the most perfect thing ever, but it's closer to it than 90% of what comes out every season. Granted, I might be biased since I love the whole "intelligence over power" sort of story, but this is seriously good stuff. Not since kaminomi I've seen a series that manages to balance such often seen situations and archetypes while remaining so entertaining for so long without degrading into boring fanservice fest. Just like that series, I'm pretty sure a good part of this comes from an author who actually seems to enjoy the themes at hand, or at least does one hell of a research on them. From KING CRIMSON (that's from Jojo, in case you don't know) to actually mentioning galgun and akiba strip, someone definetly knows his games and manga.
Favorite part of the whole show? Two things, the great fantasy atmosphere kept through the whole thing, and the characters, pretty much all of them, from the king of keikakus himself, his adorable imouto, poor little Steph, to the crazy perverted winged awesomeness that is Jibril.
Of course, kudos must also go to the anime staff, who for the most part did a fantastic job adapting the novels, as far as my knowledge of them goes. Great use of colors and screentime made for some really awesome moments, from Materialization Shiritori to what I'm sure will be the most disturbing ED of the year. I'd like to say this is the best adaptation work compared to mahouka, but I understand that all of mahouka is ridiculously hard to adapt, while NGNL had like, what, a single episode with issues, so it wouldn't be fair.
So yeah, good stuff. Time to start reading more LNs
