Ep22. I'm still loving this show. Why aren't the partisans of gar here? I don't generally like the over-the-top shouting and fighting shows, but this one is different. Maybe it's the stylization of the whole thing, but I'm just lapping this up. Powerful stuff. And with a weird kind of love triangle to come?

Anyway, this great, I love all the historical characters that are out. My only issue here is that there are too many generals they label as legendary when there aren't much records on them.

True, that. This show just gets stronger and stronger. As Om Nerabdator says: "It just grabs you and won't let you go." Have to admire the staff and cast for realizing that they could play this totally over the top and still make it work brilliantly.

I heard this took place in the Warring States period and I'm a sucker for historical fiction (of course, they take some liberties here, but whatever, I still count it as historical fiction, or as close as you can get in a fighting anime) so I gave it a try. It's available for streaming on the Funimation website, which was an added bonus.
Really enjoying it so far. I'm up to episode 6. When you combine the setting with the over-the-top battles that originally drew me to anime when I was a kid, you've got the perfect recipe for a show I'll enjoy. Surprised there's not much fanfare here on AnimeSuki. I guess this is a hidden gem. Anyone know a place with icons for forums for this show? I'd switch my Darwin icon to promote this a bit if I could find any. |

Either they've stopped using 3D animation, or i'm just so us to it now that I don't notice it Can't blame me though, i'm too busy enjoying each episode to the fullest. Loving the characters, battles, dialogue etc

Hey thanks man, that was generous of you. Anyways I am now up to episode 17. This is such a fun show and it's really great (only downside is I have been staying up too late as night is usually my only uninterrupted stretch of free time lol). The setting is really nice, I like how this is in some ways a typical setting for an action/adventure series, but with an enjoyable historical backdrop. You've got the typical rise from rags to riches anime hero, but it works in this setting very well.
I find it ironic that animesuki has pretty much been my sole connection to the anime world and I've finally found a non-sequel/reboot series to watch every week, but there's not much fanfare here. Do you guys think it's all down to the CGI animation? That's a pretty silly/shallow reason to overlook such a fun series. |

At times the anime looks good, as in not a lot of bad 3D, or maybe I've gotten used to looking past it. Once they break out those huge war scenes it's more apparent but it doesn't bother me anymore. If people aren't watching this due to the animation quality or thinking it's some kiddie show they're missing out on some exciting stuff. Kingdom feels like it can currently compete in the high octane action shounen genre and be a top show. This is my opinion of course, but there isn't much competition atm I know of that's pushing out a steady stream of awesomeness other than Jojo really.
