Screencaps in windows media player

I think this was the most suitable category to post in... I would like to know how to take screencaps/screenshots in windows media player. VDub was suggested but I do not really like using other programs to take screenshots with.

thanks in advance

Use ctrl-I to capture an image with WMP9.

Personally I think the best program for screen captures is BSPlayer. I use if for nothing else. I'm particularly fond of the ability to set a template for file name format. (Mine is %F+%T,%A1 )

Use something that can take snapshots in directshow, like hypersnap dx. I would suggest using an alternate player, such as bsplayer or media player classic, which have snapshot abililty built in. Or you can use Virtual dub.

just hit "print screen" then paste it into a bitmap...

it always works for me...the only downfall is that it gets the entire desktop so you'll have to crop everything out

Yep, that works too. Just make sure you don't have overlay on. If it is then you won't capture any of the video.

Taking screencaps from DVDs and MKV/OGM files

I recently bought some Slayers DVDs and was wondering, is there anyway to get screencaps of the episodes? I tried mplayer classic's save image function but it only produces a black image. I don't want to rip it to avi, it takes too long.

Also I downloaded Uninhabited Planet Survive and wanted to take some screens.
[a-blitz mkv version]

It won't let me use any media player's save image function,
or print screen. It only produces a black image. Also virtualdub
won't open it to take screens that way.

Reason I ask is I am running an anime blog and
I post what I watch along with some screenshots.

Please help...

Summary: How can I take screenshots from DVDs and KMV/OGM files?

Well, there's always good ol' Print Screen. Anyway, nothing should stop you from taking pictures from OGM/MKV files, or atleast I haven't heard of anyone having problems like that before. If I recall correctly, DVDs need to be played with hardware support disabled but apart from that you should be able to take screenshots from them too.

You could always get VirtualDubMod and use it to make screenshots. If VDM doesn't work on the files, there's something wrong with your PC

If you play the DVD in Windows Media player (requires a newer version) then you can press CTRL+I when you have the required scene and this will let you save a screencap

Have a look at this post, called screen shots.

Closing thread as further questions can be asked in the other thread. And use of "Search" would have found the existing thread. Or this thread called Screenshots.

Capturing screenshots of fansubs.

How would I go about capturing screenshots out of avi files like fansubs?

I did a search of the forums and nothing pertaining to this subject came up.

Well, since both BS player and windows media player don't work for me, is there some other way to do this? I don't know why they don't work. WMP used to work well but one day, all of a sudden, it doesn't work anymore. BS player never worked.
