I do wish they had kept the bit right after Hero saves Demon Girl and before he starts questioning her as it is a bit of a riot with her misunderstanding what he was "borrowing" her for and him freaking out in responce.

Funny at first, yes, until you think about what it means for how often she has been "borrowed" in the past. She's probably lucky if she gets through a week without being raped. The "holy crusaders" in the city are some pretty horrible people.

IMO So far, almost all the major issues has been delivered in a sterile way (aka. no thrill). It’s like the anime doesn’t even try to get the audience to be invested in any of it .

It was high time we were show how Demons looked and behaved. Considering how far this anime wants to go, this was a really good episode.
Honestly, even if this series was 24 episodes long, you'll get far more talking, economics and politics than chuunibyou action scenes. I see people feeling anything out of the subtle character reactions. I think MAOYU was too overhyped, and that's why a big chunk of the audience jumped in with wrong expectations.

I prefer adaptations that strive to be a "good anime" by taking liberties and making the necessary tweaks to the original work (Jinrui, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Chuunibyou, Kotoura-san). Then you have extremely faithful adaptations that only strive to put on TV what was on paper (SAO, BTOOOM!, Sakurasou). If done right, the former are more likely to be a great show. As for the latter, faithfulness often sacrifices being a "good anime" for fan pandering's sake.
With MAOYU, I feel I got a great anime, a fantastic manga and a very interesting novel. It's win-win-win to me. I don't feel that the anime it's a lesser work just because there's a "missing scene" or did things differently.

And just to note, Maoyuu is no less faithful than the titles you labeled as "extremely faithful" like SAO and Sakurasou. The difference is, Maoyuu anime has more materials cut out and lacking in execution (thus, less impact).

I don't hate the series but having not read the series from other sources it lacks impact for me. I mean its an enjoyable weekly watch but I also find it a bit forgettable.
Even looking at this discussion the only thing we are talking about is whether its a good or bad adaption, doesn't say much for the series.

After one year of not seeing Maou, our story hero finally returns after completing the task he had been assigned, there is no one else in the whole house (unless the horses can talk), Maou says that as his owner she can reward hero. The dance ends and what does hero does? "Gee, look at the time, i should get going to whack my sword some more in a frozen wasteland" and he teleports without even one #@$% kiss? Hero is GAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY! I am getting vibes from the next episode encounter with the old ranger/thief/ninja that hero has the same sexual orientation as smitters from The Simpsons >_<

As for Maoyuu's charas, they are fleshed-out, but they’re not fleshed-out well enough to me, just like I said in my previous post. Hell, just look at the comments of many anime-only watchers in this thread to know whether the anime was doing a (generally) good job with fleshing-out their characters or not (so far).

Ive actually dropped the show myself, it's just . . .BORING! if the anime creators stopped messing with shit, and stayed faithful to the sources materials it would be awesome. |

As few has already pointed out in the thread, the biggest thing that affecting this series adversely is the length of the show. This episode could easily have been stretched to 3-4 well paced episodes. I sure could have used more exposition about the hero to sell me on the idea that he is not a dummy by any stretch of the imagination. This series isn't horrible or anything, but it could have been so much better. It's a shame really.

re Index: For all the supposed edits, it STILL felt that they were keeping in a huge chunk of uneccesary exposition -- see Touma taking FIVE MINUTES to run three feet in one of the first episodes of season 1.
I feel it's entirely the opposite in Maoyuu, where the production is cutting wholesale a lot of the stuff that would have fleshed out the setting even more, or make the characters... less lame. They're blasting through the material, but they're skipping a LOT of interesting stuff, many of which aren't even useless fluff! It's definitely a strange decision, and the show is suffering for it.

I looked at the rules a few times now... And since I can't find anything that forbids anime- only theories... (I can't even find the word theory in the rules oO)
And no I don't want an answer if its true or not... I want to get that itch to write the theory tdown every time I see certain parts of the anime: Spoiler for Theory - Demon King identity:
