Would using a greatly concentrated energy barrier(to the point of solid/semi-solid state) as a battering ram dish out an effect similar to that of a physically solid one?

Well, maybe there will be minor hype, almost everyone (except the harem ) knew how lethal I.S. are

I'm definitely surprised How Madoka managed to shoot the soldiers non-lethally... in spite of the weapon is heavy caliber and pack kinetic energy that probably could pierce inches of steel (insta gib ahoy). Damn it Izuru!

So ramming attacks(ala Boost Charges in ACV) is possible, only with more energy consumption. Cool!

That is if the unit in question can manipulate its barrier concentration.

Nope, in this case the unit with higher defense rating (shield efficiency) has advantage. Barrier manipulation is optional.

Physical shield however has advantage of pure kinetic energy, because it has considerable mass. This is the principle of why Pilebunker/Parrying blade > laser blade in AC

To my understanding, physical shields has a higher chance of inflicting damage upon ramming due to its mass.

Energy barriers, on the other hand, can have its impact force attenuated by another barrier of considerable strength.

What I'm aiming for now is a way to ram an opponent while:
- Inflicting minimal/no damage to the enemy.
- Not damaging the user's unit in the process.
- Not degrading the barrier's strength after a successful hit.(Which is the case for physical shields)

That would be cool, but I don't think they can.

@ Stratos
Simply put, adjust the barrier strength similar to enemy. Zero result/nullification.... but then BOTH unit have their SP reduced continuously

Well, I don't know how to answer. But why would you want to fight an I.S. head on in spite of their abilities? Best way to fight it is trap it somehow and then use a lot of incendiary material to turn a lot of air into plasma... and hope it works somehow.

Chifuyu claim can be as fast as 0.7 second. Considering the time required to summon equalizer though, I think that's a bull. Probably 2-3 second.

Yes.

I.S. would be a part of mechanized force. in a world where I.S. can be mass produced we also have a faster, tougher tank that can dish out more firepower than I.S., we will also have a jet fighter that could give any I.S. a run for their money in terms of mobility, we have powerful ship that is protected by powerful energy barrier and launch a missile that could flatten a small island.

But no matter how advanced technology progress, Infantry will exist. Probably equipped with simplified, miniaturized I.S. in place of body armor and BDU.

Adding character development and banishing the status quo.

Focusing in more important aspect (Ichika's origin, Charl's imminent future, Houki-Tabaen relationship, PT-related conflict etc) and less harem antic.

No need to be original, just need to be acceptably fresh AND fun.

As demi said, it's like I.S. are mocking/deconstructing harem character archetype, usually likable, or at least acceptable, into something totally annoying. From a point this is kinda new, but definitely not fun.
