What does Manga mean?

Good afternoon.

I started watching Anime since last summer, or exactely last August. In most of the Anime websites, there must be a Manga section.

What I think is that manga is about stories and such things.

What I really want to now is the meaning of Manga and what it is about?

Manga are the comic books on which most anime are based.

Manga are comic books, that's about it. Though they're more literally comic BOOKS than american comics (manga tend to number upwards of 200 pages, comic books get 40 pages or so for the standard ones)
recently, however, american comic book artists have started to use the "novel"-like format, and spawned the term "Graphic Novel" which includes manga (i don't use the term...so when freshmen come up to me in my school's anime club and ask if i have any graphic novels, i correct them and say i have plenty of MANGA, but only 1 graphic novel )

also, out of morbid curiousity: is there any reason you put "Good Morning" at the top of your posts?

BTW, most anime (i.e. cartoons) are based on a manga (i.e. comic). There are a number of fan sites that scan and translate manga (in the same way that fansub groups translate and produce fansubs)

Sorry to go off topic here.

It's just that from what I have heard and read about things in the Middle East (Especially from the book "Inside The Kingdom" by Carmen bin Ladin), most of the nations in ME tend to have stircter rules aganist female.

Coupled with the fact that most of the manga published and anime showned today tend to have some sexual undertone and nudity....

I know that some nations in the ME, like Kuwait, have lax the rules a bit, but still being an Islamic nation and all.....

However, people talk about it with their friends for example since we can't deny that it's a fact that is happening in our life

Anyway, i don't know the book that u read but may be heared about the auther.

From my experience, most of the books (Arabic or English) don't say the right things about my culture or the way we live. All of their ideas r old and r extincting now in my culture.


Females life nowadays r much much better than the past.

I think 'manga" is just the pronounciation of the kanji characters, or "漫画", but will need to break out the dictionary to be sure.

I think perhaps a better translation is simply "sequential art." It clearly marks what manga and "comicbooks" do - tell a story using pictures - without much undesired second-hand meanings in terms like "comic strips" or "comic books" (i.e. they are funny). "Sequential art" is also closer to the kanji meaning of Manga than "comicbooks"

no, 漫画 is read as manga, only 漫画家 is read as mangaKa

yes, there are also korean and chinese comic
but among all, japanese manga happens to be the most popular and most successful one

since for the language of japanese, it consists of hiragana, katakana, and kanji, they are all different types of word in japanese, in general speaking
