Yes, except I quit after a few days. It was less fun when you played compared to what you've watched. I knew that but ... I started playing anyway. And it was hard even on a 9x9 board

A friend started playing because of the anime, so I tried it and later on watched the anime. Like the game, it's fun!

I tried to solve puzzles like the kind Hikaru did when he first met Tsutsui, but...man, I'm not good with logic. Go is pretty hard. XD

Off-topic, but who is that in your signature? She has a cool character design. :O

I actually found it to be great fun. I started going to the Go-club in my city and I really enjoy it. The club's really small though, we're about 8 people in one room and our equipment consists of some foldable boards and damaged glass stones of mixed size.
And yes, it's hard, and I still suck.

@ayako: That's Mishima Reika from RahXephon.

Just saw episode 14 and it really was such a stupid episode.
Even though this is anime and it has spirits and unbelievable stuff but that guy is an idiot. He can't know his true strength if he played the game in the middle.
WTH!! So stupid. I'm so pissed right now.
IDIOT!

And as for Hikaru acting stupid, it's been years since I saw it again but I always thought he acted like a kid...

Well the end sucks because there is no conclusion Still it is a great series. I started watching it randomly and i had no idea what the hell it is about. I got hooked from the first episode. If they finish things off with another special or something then it's all good. Back in 2003 i also started playing Go because of this Reached 9 Kyu (KGS rating) then stopped.
One of my favourite series for sure.

I am planning on rewatching this series one more time XD. I want to buy the dvds. It's a shame that Cartoon Network never aired any of the episodes on cable, only on stream .

I'm rewatching this series atm, and it just brings back the excitement from all those years ago.
I deem this anime of the decade.

The OPs and EDs are the best. Today's songs used in the animes are just horrible compared to back then. Too much of that pop/rock/hip-hop, whatever it is.

Too bad they didn't give it a proper end though.

And did Mitani's sister have a name?

I stumbled upon an interesting bit of trivia about the current state of I-Go in Japan.
Quote:
In February this year, Taiwanese player Chang Hsu — better known as Cho U — won the Kisei tournament, the only title to have eluded him thus far in his career. With that victory, he became only the second player, after South Korean grandmaster Cho Chikun in 1987, to sweep all seven major I-Go leagues in Japan, including that of Meijin (the title held by Akira Touya's father) and Tengen.

Taipei-born Chang, 30, first picked up the game at the age of six, and began training a year later under Shen Chun-shan, former president of the National Tsing Hua University of Taiwan and head of an I-Go foundation.

At nine, Chang was spotted by Lin Hai-feng, a Taiwanese grandmaster famously known as Rin Kaiho in Japan. Lin was so impressed by Chang's talent and composure that he decided on the spot to take the boy under his wing. One year later, Chang flew to Japan to begin rigorous training.

Chang's father once told Hong Kong magazine Yazhou Zhoukan that his son had displayed exceptional talent in mathematics and memory at a tender age, even though a kindergarten teacher believed the boy was "lacking in intelligence" because he seldom spoke.

Chang turned professional at 14, and became the youngest competitor in the Honinbou (the title held by Shusaku, the boy that Sai had possessed before Hikaru) tournament in 2001, which he lost at the time.

Chang is married to Japanese Izumi Kobayashi, herself a formidable sixth-dan player. They have two daughters.

Source: The Sunday Times, Singapore, June 6, 2010.
So, it seems the "new wave" of Japanese players predicted by the reporter in penultimate episode of Hikaru no Go didn't quite emerge after all in real life.

In fact, I wonder if the youth revival sparked by the manga has been sustained.

Thanks to Seijisensei for recommending this one - I'm hooked after 8 episodes. Every ep has a great cliffhanger ending.

This is my younger's brother favorite show ever. And one of my personal favorites (possibly my second favorite sport series, only second to Cross Game). Nice to see you're finally discovering this gem.

And god was that scene epic.
