So wait Jojo and Dio were both supposed to be twelve at the start of the episode according to George. They don't look a day under 16 at the youngest.
That was an exceedingly manly opener in a 1980's campy style way. It reminds me a lot of the awesome melodrama of Fist of the North Star in more than a few ways. |

Me neither. It truly was great. Jonathan looked like Kenshiro more than ever in this OP.
The episode was fast-paced once again but it's not much of a problem since the key elements are still there. As usual, Dio is such a scum bag. And that's what makes him so entertaining.

In the case of episode 2, I figured that the mask had something to do with vampires. Now I'm wondering just how the Joestar family came into possession of such an item... And yeah, it seems like there is some censoring for the more brutal attacks during fight scenes, but there's a large likeliness that it may be uncensored in the DVD release. Heck, it could be a LOT worse. They could have removed blood all-together.

Dat fucking OP. One of the best of this year, hands down.
As for that episode, I want to give a pat on the back of the director to make clever use of every possible tools to deal with limited animation because it's obvious that David Production is not swimming in gold. And story-wise we are getting to the point where it stops being Candy Candy or your victorian era campy drama and slip in another genre. I squealed like a twilight fangirl over Speedwagon making his due appearance. And about the preview of ep 3: My body IS ready!!!! |

Wow! Jojo certainly grew up, so did Dio.
I was surprised to see Jojo and Dio get along. Well, looks like they were just faking it... The mask finally showed it's true face! It's a vampire making mask, pretty cool. Things are really getting interesting.

By god that opening song is fabulous. Reminds me a lot of anime openings from 80's anime like Fist of the North Star's or Macross's. Fits really well.
Episode itself was pretty great as well. Animation still cuts corners quite a bit but they really have the spirit of the series down and the visual and voice direction they have going works really well. There's definently a lot of love going into this adaption. |

the animation looks kinda stiff and weird for almost the entire episode especially when speedwagon was trying to slice JoJo up with his hat
other than that, overall it was a very good episode. I was expecting some hand drawn full of GARness and Manliness opening, but that would do, I think... NEXT WEEK, Dio and Jojo confrontation is gonna be a blast! heck even the preview is already emitting it

The OP is very reminiscent of Fist of the North Star, which seems to pay homage to it. Even the anime seems to remind me of old school comics back then, Jojo and Dio were already rivals back then. Things will be intense due to that mask which resembles a vampire.
