When Shizu started trying to tell the people that their ship country was going to sink, I almost thought the people were going to start saying, "Fake news! Fake news!"

I love Kino no Tabi, but the anime pacing is horrendous....especially in the last two episodes. Wished they split this chapter in two instead...

Don't worry, many of us make the same mistake, if it's not for some arkwork with Kino in sugestive posses I wouldn't have found it.

Well, I haven't watch the old anime, and if that isn't enough, is that official image of the heroines of Dengeki Bunko with Kino in swimsuit.

This week's episode was my favorite so far, mostly thanks to the second story. I loved all those twists. Truly a country of liars.

First one was also interesting because it was the first time we saw another motorrad. And sure enough, it could talk too. I'm hoping the kid who wants to be a traveler will eventually steal it.

interesting set of episodes, 2nd part was amusing. Still taking time to let it settle in my head.

does the books go into any detail how Kino is able to afford her travels? Sure she camps out and hunt and stuff to save on expenses, but seems she has no kind of income to speak of.

The novel rarely goes into details except when it needed for story purpose but essentially, doing odd jobs (bodyguard, assassination. Etc.), scavenging from ruins/corpse on the road, buying and selling stuff. These also apply for other groups, like Shizu's. Kino tends to avoid assassination, unless they pay is high enough.

The first part was a rather unexpected choice, but fitting with the overal "lies & truth" theme in the episode. The second part was one of my favorite story in the novel and I'm glad they did the story's justice (they even got Ishida Akira as the hero ).

İ have a question. In the LN Shizu knows that Kino is a girl?

...Well if they are happy with things turn out who's to say otherwise? That's bigger picture for them.

That said, I kinda of called that twist with the princess coming in my head, but I didn't think it would actually happen.

If you mean at that point in the story? It doesn't sound like it.

Yes, he knew by the end of the Colosseum story (ep 2 in this 2017 anime). In most of this chapter Shizu refered to Kino as "Kino-kun", but after being puzzled by Kino's words that she was taught to not follow strange men, Riku the dog whispered something to Shizu, and he changed to call her "Kino-san". It's too bad subtitle just didn't include this.

Spoiler for the end of this story in the novel:

Though I kind of like it that the anime left this story open-ended. The main point is that Kino couldn't help both of them directly, but she could at least let the two meet each other and solve both of their problems on their own. The rest is just a natural conclusion.

Episode 6:

Damn, this episode was painful to watch.

Some people in their world can be so cruel....it's sad. Even in a country with slavery, that girl was treated like trash by the others. A lot of psychology involved and it was quite thrilling. I don't think that girl had to blame herself for anything.

Felt different from the other episodes and it was quite an emotional ride. I'm impressed at how the VA was able to express her feelings.

That was a really great episode. I'll put the rest under spoiler tags because I don't want to risk spoiling anybody.

really good episode.
while i agree the girl was naive in her thinking, but coldn't help but be moved at how pure she was.

interesting style where kino is just a passerby and has no impact at all.

wow a really, really good episode, what i would call a "big lucky" for the girl, lol, that scum peoples, even the childrens are being raised to be even more scums than the parents, the only guy i ended feeling bad was that beard guy which really looked like a "good person" specially in the end, he was the only one which not diserved that bad "lucky" and looked like really wanting to help her, but wow really a good ending and good episode

Just like the beard guy has said, luck plays a big role in our life. This episode tells you that you can actually be the father or the son or those merchants given the wrong time. Those "scum" merchants personality & attitude are actually considered "normal" if you are born under that kind of society where slavery is normal, heck this kind of scenery did happened in reality long ago. We are just lucky to be under a home to watch this episode. Imagine you are born 100 years ago in a wealthy family and slavery is normal, you might not be far from those merchants there. Simply blaming those merchants especially the kid is not entirely right, as they are just effected by that kind of society. Just like we are under our current society, sitting in front of a screen writting sh1t about other bad people like its a normal thing to do, in fact we never do anything personally to help those who have suffered because its not "our" problem. Or are you thinking those poor people just "unlucky"?

i think it's not just about "time" cuz not every town in this world is a "slave friend place", as we see basically every citie have they own rules which can be totally different/ opposite of each other or equal, then while the 2 cities that merchants keep cicling around where slavery based and make it easy for then don't means which if they started to travel around others places they could not have a crap fate if they have that sort of "act".

Another note for me this don' make the less "gulty" since if this was the case we could never be a end of slavery of each generation would keep follwing the "old parents" the reason, slavery ended was exactly because of that as the "generations passed" instead of follow the "old way" young generation started to see that thing as bad until the point where it was no more acceptable.

Even the motorade which was inside the truk which was supposed to be they property was happy with they ending because it could see "how wrong that peoples where" and ended helping the girl to not feel so bad about they deaths, because they where really asking for it.

Another problem of it was too the fact which normally is aways the "rich" power over the poors, the only reason she was sold as slavery was because she was poor without any family and the town started to see her just as a hiddrance/annoyance to get riddle off, because that town was a "trump town.

basically we saw a alternative world with the "trump family", i means when trump was a kid and that merchant was his father and the kid was trump, but on that world they don't had the same lucky as the real world.

Well really the episode was all about lucky.

But i'm really sad over the beard guy he looked like the only "reasonable person" along that scums and the only one not diserving die like that.

I wonder if Photo will meet Kino soon.

Personally I don't like how those merchants are written because they are too dramatically comical and one-dimensional cruel. The kid's speech came off as a nonsensical and overkill moment imo. Photo's inner turmoil is nice though, and Sou's condescending tone is hilarious.

Spoiler for A Tale of Feeding Off Others (ep 2 of Kino no Tabi 2003 anime):

It almost seems that traveling merchants are no good people in Kino's world

well to be honestly it's not like that sort of "person" don't exist in real world, you can actually find one-dimensional cruel peoples in real world, history give a lot of exemple of that peoples, it's just the world while is not "full black or white" and have some gray it's also don't means which everyone is "gray" you can still find "black peoples(in the sense of evil not color, please no racism intended ) in the same way you can find the "white ones" what is matter is it's personality and external influences.
