Freaking hell. Less than 20% of the volume was plot. Less than 5% was IS combat (just one scene of a IS being gunned down).

Fanservice is everywhere, though at least it's no longer the usual 'tournament preparation -> token fight scenes -> interrupt -> girl power up' plot. I almost dropped the volume due to sheer uselessness and cliche-filled 'romance comedy' events in the first two chapters, it took over a third of the book to get into gear. The usual caricatures of 'clingy jealous girl', 'ojou-sama' and so on types of 2-dimensional character developments here, with no depth to the relationships. The Tatenashi siblings have also fallen into this trap.

Thankfully, Chifuyu didn't beatdown a IS by herself, she merely played bait for the other teacher's IS to blast it down with 4 gatling guns. Though later events showed Tabane might be able to go toe to toe with a IS and Tabane admits Chifuyu is on her level >.>

This volume has some more 'Houki is best girl' vibes - being the only one to gun for Ichika but isn't perverted to the core, as shown from the VR scenes. There's subtle suggestions that none of the other girls deserve Ichika and is only good for drama/fanservice >.<

Ichika is still dense as all hell in picking up females being attracted to him. Though he's at least no longer asexual in that he can be flustered seeing if he sees females in varying states of undress.

The only silver lining in all of this was some plot development:
-New Exoskeleton suit created, called 'Extended Operation Seeker', basically a IS frame with no weapons, core, or fancy gizmos like PIC (Passive Inertia Canceller). Mostly developed for things like lifting crumbled buildings and so on.
-US govt called the covert op attack on IS Academy;
-Their goal was the passcode to unfreeze and steal Chifuyu's IS that she used to won the Brunhild title, currently petrified into a statue under IS Academy;
-Some 3rd party stole Ichika's IS stats for next generation Mass-Produced IS plan;
-As aforementioned in spoilers, Tabane took a liking to Madoka and is willing to build her a IS - though with hooks as Tabane is trying to pull Madoka to her side and leave her organisation;
-And apparently Ichika is now psychic, all you need to do to get him to come and help you is call his name. Campione's Godou must have had that part of his skills stolen >.>

Verdict: The volume was mediocre, to be generous in my opinion. But the plot has not deteriorated bad enough to drop the series. I stand by my earlier comment in this thread though you'd only be reading IS mainly for understanding the doujins out there.

tl;dr - Volume 8 sucked if you're reading this for plot and/or mechs. 10/10 if you're reading for fanservice and cliches.

Does anyone understand my reluctance to do this volume now? After being against 16.5 the last time, I think it came back to bite me already. Someone...just put me out of my misery already.

Speaking of which, the other teacher was Yamada-sensei.

Oh, and Chifuyu practically declares war on Tabane.

As for translation project, just say you don't like it, and hand it over to whoever want it.

Sincerity is gold, after all, and it's not an obligation because you earn nothing but self satisfaction (or lack thereoff).

Well...I'm allowing anyone to translate this (partly to train new translators, partly to focus on a lone horn), but I did promise that I'll get back to it in August (or whenever the lone horn is finished...and then I have plans to retake Accel World and DenYuuDen...to go with Hikaru, Biblia, Baka Test and 3 min. I love my life).

IS should've of been picked up by hobby at least we'd see boobs. And other things...

I think they picked Choco cause he can draw mech. But the way he draws the main heroine they're not really unique anymore. They're all one noted.. not to mention rin looks more related to tabane than houki. (Man did choco fuck up tabane... she was one of my favorite characters.) The old artstyle might've of been bad, but I'm pretty sure we can name another few novels that have bad art. If your art is bad you'll use story to get your audience. If your story is good you might be able to pull it off with horrible art. If your story is bad, your art is meh, you'll crash and burn. But hey this is IS. If IS turns into a flop they can always turn the series into a eroge like that one light novel. I wouldn't mind if that happened. We'd get a ONEESAN ROUTE HURRAY.

And seriously, Chifuyu manages to get fangirls as easily as Ichika does; all she did was pat on the captured IS captain's head and Chifuyu got her heart in the bag. This wasn't even intentional

Though IMO 'declare war' seems a bit strong a term. All Chifuyu said was she can't afford to lose to Tabane yet.

it covers the first 3 with a few changes to the story, it probably does i just don't know which pages and also you don't really need the summaries baka-tsuki has all the volumes translated except for 8 which just came out
