I don't think Shakespeare depicted her as such, but the more general concept of a pagan "Queen of the Forest, Queen of the Night" definitely has some fertility Goddess elements to it. I think the mangaka just chose the name Titania because it's a connection anyone who knows Shakespeare would be familiar with.

The Sleigh Beggy reference is another matter. I preferred the original fan translation "Slay Vega", I must admit.

Some people might consider James Frazer's "New Golden Bough" "dry and academic", but a better record of folklore and religion in Europe has never been written. If you find the subject matter interesting I think you'd find the book interesting.

(EDIT: the original work is on Project Gutenberg and the style looks interesting enough. I'll check it out)

Wow, episode 7.
The little details between Chise and Elias were interesting to watch especially with their relationship development. Even though she isn't perfect yet at crafting magic, potions etc, Chise is doing her best to make it work. Furthermore, this episode reveals more what that strange kid is doing with his ingredients. They also adapted the transformation scenes well imo especially the Black Dog. Pretty thrilling cliffhanger. I'm very excited for next week!

That was an excellent episode, on the first half we can see that Chise is trying to learn more about magic so she can't be so dependant of Elias but at the same time to make him proud which shows the depth of their relationship and that they still have a lot of things to learn.
Now the best part of the episode was Joseph's intervention with the chimera, for now we don't know his intentions or the reason why he does it but he crossed the line by attacking Chise, the real form of Elias is finally revealed. The preview shows that we're going to see what happens and that we're getting more about the black dog's past. |

How much time has passed since Chise woke up last episode? She seems to have learned quite a few things already.
Renfred and Alice were confirmed not to be bad guys, they're just threatened into doing that sorcerer kid's bidding. He's taking advantage of other people once again. I hope Elias will teach him a lesson next week. I'm interested in the black dog's backstory. It's a bit confusing. He seems to think he's human and that Isabelle was his sister, but flashbacks show him as a dog. Elias also commented he had only awakened recently. My guess is that he was a normal dog until Isabelle got killed, and turning into a black dog coupled with the trauma of losing his beloved owner jumbled his memories. Elias' true form is terrifying. No wonder so many fear him.

What a cliffhanger!!!!
Talk about a chimera and the black dog reminds me of the dog/child chimera tragedy in Fullmetal Alchemist. Hopefully things won't go that tragic in this series. ...ah, but Elias is angry now...and you don't want Elias angry. I'm still curios to know what Elias' origin is. Don't know if they have already revealed it in the manga - waiting to finish the anime before picking that up again. ...and once again, the animation production and music is topnotch in this series. The black dog's transformation reminds me of a scene from a Ghibli movie. Kind of wondering why this particular series got such high production value (high budget?) - not complaining! Glad for it!

So Elias has a true form, and he's now mighty pissed. At this point I wonder if the kid is going to survive next episode and become a long-term antagonist or if this is end of the line for him. Elias doesn't look like he's the forgiving type, and I'm pretty sure he's not one to be trifled with in terms of power.
