I'm assuming you're talking about that escort mission in the Zabusa Arc? If so...I believe it got upgraded to a higher ranked mission because of what was revealed.

I think Neji and possibly Sasuke would have been promoted to Chuunin had Naruto been knocked unconcious at the end of his fight with Neji causing Neji to win it.

irrelevant, it was already pretty much made clear why Naruto and Neji wouldn't of made Chuunin, despite of who won/lost.

However Shika was promoted because though he lost his fight, he showed chuunin like leadership and it'd be waste for him to spend another year as a genin.

let me ask this... can you name an chunin or jounin that doesn't seem to pocess the intellgence to lead a team or one that looks like they were promoted based on raw power alone? The do all have good leadership skills... they all have good intellegence and the ability to think about the whole team, work with them, and are not ever blinded by personal glory... unlike most genin... All of them could lead a team of a genin/chunin if need be...

I hate that everyone feels that Naruto sucks.
I honestly think it's the fillers that make people think this.
He follows instructions, even if they take them away from their friends, and he becomes extremely smart strategy wise as he trains.

then tell me why we should assume, that in terms of intellgence, neither of them have improved one bit in the past 2.5 years?... afterall, we have not really seen either of them in action... we saw Hinata once, and we saw chouji twice but both times were very brief... 10 to 1 says that both of them have what it takes to lead a team of genin

What's the point of saying leadership can be taught?
it's not like anyone said that you had to be born with leadership qualities... learning to be a good leader comes with disipline and experience... get both and mix in a good amount of intellegence and you'll eventually learn to lead...

1) since when does, "not chunin-worthy" equal to "sucks"...
2) most poeple hear don't even consider fillers, they're not canon
3) being a chunin is about leading, not following...
4) A chunin must be able to think for the whole team, not himself... when it comes down to it, naruto mostly improvises and makes up his plans as he goes... unlike shikamaru who stays 10 steps ahead of his enemies... the later is good for teams, the former is only useful for solo fighting... as a leader, Naruto would probably end up making a lot of bad judgement calls when ordering the other genin...

Yes naruto should be chunnin, but he lacks knowledge. In fact, the only reason he should not be a Jounin is cus hes as dumb as wood. Otherwise, he should be a Jounin.

The chuunin rank tests in part power (you dont want an overly weak leader), but what they are really testing is leadership/maturity.

Basically, there are kids that are very strong, but you dont want them to be a leader simply because they are strong. They may lack the necessary abilities to analyze situations and consider what is best for the group.

Juunin more than likely tests simply raw power and ability. Once chuunin is accomplished, extremely talented/genious ninja's i would imagine are able to accomplish juunin soon after.

yes, i agree naruto is very strong but the reason he is not worthy of being chuunin becuase he doesnt use his head and neither he has some good analyzing skills..

naruto's an idiot but in certain situations his iq could be even higher than shikamaru's like his fight with kakashi for the bells(both times), his fight with kiba, his fight with neji(using a kage bunshin) besides his iq his strength is spectacular(not really but if he calls on a bit of nine-tail) his leadership skills are bogus and would probably get his team killed but his determinatio would make up for that

He lack leadership, but he has the determnation to obtain it if he control his emotions which always get the better of him, but then again, that's what make him who he is and powerful.

But who really care about ranks?

Itachi is really a chunnin and he doesn't care.

Just as long as Naruto beat the crap out of them and take names, he is fine being a "genin" forever

Naruto is kage level. if he can seriously wound jiraiya and can fight off orochimaru, then he is kage level. think about it like this... lets say naruto was else where someplace and sakura, sai, and yamato met orochimaru. How long do you think that fight would have lasted?

You have to remember three things.

One, Jiraiya wouldn't fight Naruto to the death, not even kill him. He was supressing MK.

Two, Oro was playing with MK the whole time, and decided to spare his life as he was testing him. This is mentioned many times during and after the fight.

Three, that was not Naruto, but mini Kyuubi. Naruto lost conscious at three tails, as he doesn't remember destroying the bridge.

Point 1#....i agree....Jiraiya somehow even invented something to supress his chakra completly

Point 2# I disagree....if it werent for Sakura at such a bad timing, Yamato to stop things...Orochimaru would've been killed by Naruto. He was suffering after his body couldnt keep up with the fight... he was simply amused..by the thrill of the battle.

Point 3# Cant disagree...that really was the Kyuubi version...and not Naruto...this was mentioned...that he lost conscious after the 4th tail.

Neji became a jounin and to become a jounin a person needs to be skilled in all area's. Ninjutsu, Genjutsu & Taijutsu and ofcourse really needs to posses leadership and knowlegde.

Probably Neji's Leadership isnt too great yet otherwise he'd probably run his own team..by now..

As for Shikamaru....he possed "the most important attribute" (Leadership) but cant compare to Naruto at all in terms of fighting(spirit). (During Chuunin Exam)

I think Shikamaru was pretty much the weakest person around..with the brain of a genius.

I think shortly after this arc...he'll get his promotion....or something like it. Anyway perhaps even sooner because i am almost certain that after his training...he'll arrive with a totally new appearance and be alot brighter, smarter, matured, stronger...

He'll probably have a jutsu then...which can be considred the strongest in Konoha.
I really hope...Konoha comes in a pinch and he'll show us his true form...his true skills and receives massive respect from everyone (especially the advisors...)

Nope, if you read what Oro says before he fights, he stated that he wanted to test him, but not for a long time. Oro never went for the kill, he was just testing him. Even after the fight, Oro says that its a pity that play time was over. Again, he had no intention of killing Naruto, but to tes him. He was even taunting naruto the all way so that Naruto/Kyuubi could go all out on him.

err. no, he lost concious at the 3rd tail.

Go back and reread that chapter, he doesn't remember destroying the bridge.
