Not too surprised because there was Nakanishi, the ENOZ girls (EDIT*) guitarist who didn't appear for more than 3 minutes and made pass the 1st qualifying round.

Its really hard to take this contest seriously with some of the characters that are making it into later rounds. Characters with mere seconds of air time and no development are up against major characters... or characters with no realistic means of comparison.

If I remember correctly, Hazumu of Kashimashi only got in during the 2nd qualifying rounds, which was quite unexpected for me.

And Nono, of Top Wo Nerae! 2, who could be the most moe super robot that will ever exist, couldn't even be found anywhere at all lol

There were 16 Haruhi girls at first:

Imouto, Yuki, Haruhi, Nakanishi, Mikuru, Ryouko and Tsuruya-san went straight to round 2.

Kimidori, Mori, Enomoto(ENOZ Vocalist), Okashima(ENOZ Drummer), 阪中(one of Kyon's classmates) and Mai(ENOZ Bassist), made it for the 2nd qualifiers. And from here, Kimidori and Mori went into round 2.

Only Saeki(classmate), Suzuki(classmate) and 瀬能(classmate) didn't make pass the qualifiers.

9 out of 16 Haruhi girls made to round 2.

I have no idea who Saeki, Suzuki and 瀬能 are. Then again, I'm still at #5 of the novel series.

Although characters like Kimidori and the ENOZ girls would have next to zero chance of any decent showing, especially when stacked against major characters, I suppose everyone deserves a fair shot. Kinda like a new politician running a rally against an entrenched incumbent with popular support. Speaking of political rallies, it helps to think of it as all SHnY characters falling under the SoS-dan banner. Haruhi-ists will probably vote for anyone under the political party banner (SoS-dan banner), regardless if it's Haruhi or Mai the bassist.

That said, I'll probably faint if Imouto won.

I see. I don't think I really noticed any of the other classmates, except girl#10 in the that seating arrangement. She seems better drawn, compared to the other classmates and sometimes appear in classroom scenes.

She does seem better designed than most other generic classmates.

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but recently there has been rumours that a live-action adaptation of Haruhi (6 episodes) will be released in the coming Autumn. The actor of Kyon is said to be one of the major actors from the Death Note movie.

I'd have to see the supposed Yuki actress in a solemn expression to have a better idea whether she could pull off the really subtle nuances and "the eyes".

The other actors "look" the part but as we should know the real question is can they act the part. eh.. frequently these turn out to be wishful thinking --- but apparently H&C was pretty nicely re-enacted on live screen (really interested in seeing how that transferred to live action).

Actually, it is possible that Aya Hirano could fit the part of Haruhi.. in my opinion, she really brought the character to life with her voice acting. There was a youtube clip with fanmade english voice dubbing and despite the clarity of the voice actress, she had ZERO of the character that Aya brought to Haruhi.. the punch, the taunt, the playfulness, the brashness and such. As such, despite the beauty of this current actress (or more accurately; teenage-idol) that is being thrown up to play Haruhi, I am skeptical because I don't think the part could be played quite right without Hirano..

I think the fanboys would want the Yuki actress to master the Yuki-drift-walk though.. ; )

yeah... apart from her age, Hirano could definitely pull off the part of Haruhi (she's not quite as cute but very lively). Yeah... its easy to cast on looks --- much harder to find someone who can act the role, especially when there's a reference (the VA work).

Oh yeah..... the Yuki actress would *have* to be able to do the "doggy snacks" drift walk (she reminded me of that cartoon dog that would float over to his favorite treats via the smell).

Indeed. If/when this show is licensed, I may not be able to watch the dub no matter how good it is - simply because Hirano is Haruhi.

I agree, after Hirano Aya's performance, there just doesn't seem like anyone else can act the part. I say, Hirano Aya = Haruhi or no Haruhi at all
