Kenichi is one of those "one of a kind" anime, where finding equals is difficult. It covers so many different aspects, it is hard to find an equal mix. It would help to know which aspect(s) it is that you are searching for. Martial arts, comedy, romance, growing in strength, being bullyied and growing out of it, awesome characters, awesome teachers, etc.

If it is the martial arts, and likeable chars that attract you, I suggest Shura no Toki. Maybe also Tenjo Tenge.

I second Shura no Toki, Tenjou Tenge was only good at the start for me, towards the end it went downhill.

but something i felt that had a similar feel was "Hajime no ippo" It wasnt exactly the same, but it did have the development story similar to kenichi and did have that comedy factor.

There isnt a lot like kenichi though. I wish they would continue it.

As for suggestions, i concur that there arent anime similar to Kenichi but if you are looking for martial arts you can check on Shura no Toki but if you want a perfect combination of action / comedy then i will recommed Full Metal Panic.

And if you only watched the anime of Kenichi then i highly suggest you read the manga which continues with the story.

hmm is this series from 1988?? The summary from Animenews was a bit confusing but it sounds interesting.... hope the animation quality isnt too bad though.

Give Full Metal Alquemist a try for the action / comedy part and as for the character growing stronger you have Naruto, Bleach, Flame of Recca and Yuyu hakusho.

Geez! dude DBZ is so cliche, and over stretched. It not ever related to his request.

Sekirei on the other hard is an amazing anime, defiantly recommended.
Basically what you are looking for is Martial Arts(Action) + Icchi + developing power.
Kind of hard to find
IkkiTousen might fit the bill, but its not great at all.
