Armored Warfare - F2P online modern tank battle
For those who may not have heard of it, this is Obsidian's entry into the online tank battle business, and the game is pretty much World of Tanks in a nutshell, but with modern vehicles instead.
Press Release Sheet for more details.

Necro ho!
So the game has been in open beta for a few weeks now and I've been playing it. I'm never going back to World of Tanks. There's a post on their blog where the devs mentioned they're targeting ex-WoT players and I think that's an apt point. It's basically WoT with the good mods as part of the game and no useless tanks. AW's Tier 1 is basically WoT's Tier 3 - except shit is still useful! Oh, and Matchmaking is only +/- 2 tiers max. You will never be a Tier 4 light in a Tier 8 game. None of that bullshit scout MM! When complaints are made to a WoT developer, the standard party line is "working as intended." AW developer on the issues with spotting mechanics: "We are going to fix this shit or I will fire someone." Also don't feel too bad about spending a fair bit of time at Tier 3 - AW's Tier 3 is essentially WoT's Tier 5. Oh and the best thing ever: NO GARAGE SLOT CHARGES. That's right, UNLIMITED FREE GARAGE. You're actually encouraged to get ALL THE TANKS. Now all we need is for Obsidian to do their RPG magic and buff PVE with larger raids, quests, campaigns and more fun.

I'm surprised. I thought you would try all available tank games out there already.
What's I like about WT the most is their realistic battle (although not many are playing it so it took kinda long to have a match), where there are no enemy indicator and no disappearing tanks like WoT. You have to detect everything with your eyesight.

Nah, at the time WT Ground came about I was feeling burned out by tanks; I was concentrating on Warframe at the time.
...come to think of it, without me around the warframe thread has dropped off the front page lol.

I've kinda dropped warframe, I've seen and done everything noteworthy and besides I only ever get on the game in short bursts now, and all the new stuff in WF requires too much time to achieve anything productive.
Dropped Warthunder too come to think of it. Mainly because I only ever played Real and Sim battles, which are ruined by practically everyone running minimum graphic settings to give themselves an overwhelming advantage. Something Gaijin don't really seem bothered by.

All they need to do is add low poly bush models or even flat sprites for low settings, or even just raise the minimum requirements slightly. If your machine cant run the game with bushes then maybe its time to upgrade... Most people see it as being Gaijin wanting to keep such ultra low minimum requirements since it means that more people can play, which in turn makes them more money.
The real problem is that even people with competent machines will purposefully run ultra low settings to gain an advantage. It makes real and sim battles unplayable since your being one shotted by people miles away, who can easily see you through their low foliage count.

Finally finished the download for this and played a few PvE games. I'd like to think my WoT experience helps in play, and so far it has since I'm not lost on the controls. Netcode seems to be somewhat worse than WoT, but at least still playable. The level of polish in the presentation though is quite incredible.
Do have to say though that I'm pleasantly surprised at this game not only having PvE, but also having some semblance of a story, if only to give an excuse to blow stuff up, and I like how they frame the issue with mix and max tanks from different countries, since you're essentially a PMC/paramilitary group. Haven't gone into PvP so I don't have a good grasp of balancing, but so far though the fights don't seem quite as satisfying as in WoT, lacking that certain "oomph" there is to the impacts. Hopefully they'll improve on that as the game progresses.
