I've kind of noticed that too, it's not just this episode either. The parts that make Negi cool have been sort of amputated out of him (not just the fights). I'm hoping that this is only going to be for the first couple of episodes though.

I've also noticed the difference in Negi. I'm getting the feeling that SHAFT are going a bit to far with placing Negi as the innocent 11 year old.

Hmmm i liked the first series...and i seriously wondered why they made a second installation with the same storyline....but episode 3 made me happy. Since i actually feel there will be an alternate storyline...and Asuna in that knight suit is simply Kakkoi. But Negi-sensei's fighting skills werent impressive. I dont read manga but i remember in season 1 he was able to do lots of cool stuff...

Neway hopin it ll turn out to be a good one

I just realized that I forgot to comment on the awesomeness of the .25 second shot of 'Uguu!' after the Baka Rangers' bit. I'm starting to feel like they have a lot of people from PPD and Tsukuyomi working on this.

I think that's true:
Director: Shinbou Akiyuki (PPD and TMP).
Series Composition: Kanemaki Ken'ichi (PPD)
Character Design/Co-Animation Director: Ota Kazuhiro (PPD)
Music: Kaneoko Kei (PPD)
And I see three key animators shared between this and TMP (no real list for PPD on Anime News Network).

Actually, now that I look at the lists on ANN, I'm surprised at the differences among the three staffs. Shinbou must really be in control.

I picked up on the character design and music right away. The music has that same quirky-yet-actually-good thing that the PPD OST had going on (which I love. Roulette Theater FTW), and the part in the OP where one of the students' skirts suddenly falls off pretty much clenched it for the direction, too.
I'm loving what they're doing with this. It's Negima for sure, which great in itself, but now it's got all this extra l33tness thrown in there. I'm in fanboy heaven.

Add me to the fan crowd. I loved Asuna's fan as it added more dimension to both her developing powers and the sword itself. It wasn't just another big sword. I'll miss it!

Anyway, here's hoping #4 sees subtitles soon...I'm trying my best to avoid watching the raws...but my willpower is fading rapidly....
