OP - Uta-Kata - "Omoi wo Kanadete"
ED - Uta-Kata - "Itsuka Tokeru Namida" both performed by Savage Genius. For me, there is no doubt whatsoever. These songs are both great melodic pop music, and both pierce my heart. The OP sets up a positive feeling with an edge of melancholy, the ED is melancholy with a hint of hope. Perfect for the strange atmosphere of this wonderful anime. |

Best opening and ending for 2004? Well I don't know if they're the best, but my favorites are the opening to grenadier and the ending to genshiken. Now if I only knew the titles for these songs...
Reading through the lists reminded me of how many good openings and endings there were this year.

There's been a few good OPs and EDs this year, but only a few are easily remembered and only four are hummable at the moment... I guess those win.
Best OP: Paranoia Agent - Wins hands down for visual and audio creativity. The nutcase characters laughing in very disparate places was wild , and the song was hard to explain what genre it is: "Aaaaaaeeeeaaaaa, ahah ee oh wa...." Best ED: Midori no Hibi - I'm sure all us fans see streetlights turning on when we hear the beginning of that song playing piano. Bing, bing, pong, poom...... soshite, kizuita toki ni-I-i.... Kerero Gunzou - AFRO! (afro) GUNZOU! (gunzou!) 3, 2, 1, FIRE! Naruto - (This doesn't have to be 2004-only anime, right?) The ending with the song Ryuusei and the girls in swinsuits. Mmmm mmm. Lawdy. "I believe your promise...." Heavens that a rockin song too. -k curious P.S. Did Naruto also have the ending with "Harmonia" and the two girls singing the song as little vector-animated characters this year? "Ne, kikoemasu kaaaaa??" Gorgeous. Say what you want about Naruto but those two endings were wonderful. Last edited by Kempis Curious; 2004-12-22 at 20:35. Reason: typo |

Yah the track that was used as the second ending for Naruto was nice...
imo... the best OP of 2004 has to be the third opening of Fullmetal Alchemist.... and the best ED of 2004 has to be the ending track for Sunabouzu...

This thread has made me listen to MP3s. Oh, how I love good anime OPs and EDs... it reminds me of the pleasent anticipation of watching a great anime, and the great satisfaction of having just seen a great episode. I feel like kissing the Japanese for spending the money to keep this aspect of TV and filmaking high-quality. It's something western tv and movie producers don't want to do anymore. A CURSE ON THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN TO THE 5TH GENERATION OR SOMETHING. -k curious |

This should obviously have gone in the music forum...
Anyway, there's a similar thread there for the last half of 2004 (with the results of a Japanese poll as well) and here's my list of songs for that. (I don't feel like doing a new one to cover the entire year.) Quote:
