When he confronts Kunato at his house, he says "I'll never forgive you for what you did, but I still want to fight beside you", He was talking about Hoshijiro.

We do see the dire consequences of if we don't find a rail in time. You do have a grasp of how mindboggling big space is just from the time and distance (two hours for a planetbuster missile to reach a target) or how powerful a big ship that moves so much mass can be when just activating the thrusters may kill the inhabitants inside. How many space opera anime use that kind of detail while having those serve the story? Very few.

So yeah, fuck the haters who calls it AoT In Space and refuses to judge a show on its own merits; or just judge it on its "cliche" premise or trash it because it's a modern anime and huuurrr duuuuuur Blue Gender was better or an anime that is full CGI. The show was great and provided what I wanted from a sci-fi show. Bring the second season, bitches!
Agreed. I absolutely loved that about this show and the animation and expansive detail of the environments/tech/etc. did a really good job supporting those setting details.

And I love both shows (Sidonia and Titan).

I watched the first episode of the dub online, and its horrid. The Voice Actors are fine, and the timing is good, etc. but the translation, from the opening song to the character dialogue, IMO is entirely unsuitable for the tone and theme of the show. Its as if the Politically Correct Police screened the lines, and now everything seems sanitized to be inoffensive. The keen edge the show possessed has been beaten dull and blunted by a rock.

I hope that, if there is a commercial dub ever available for sale, that its not this one.

Netflix paid good money to produce that dub. So, whenever they decide to sell it in disc format, that's going to be the dub that'll be on sale.

But, you know, you don't have to ever listen to the dub track. Anime releases in the West do come with the original Japanese language track.

Yes, I know I don't have to listen to it, what I'm regretting is the neutering of the story. I had thought the US animation industry was getting better, but I see they still have the executives who equate 'animation' with 'cartoons', which means 'its for children', and so must be watered down. At least, that's my take on it. And dubbing opens any anime to a wider audience, but now Sidonia, which has become one of my very favorite, when it reaches that wider audience will be a far less potent story.

I first noticed it with the subtitles of the opening song. Some of the words in the scripts of the episodes seemed to have been PC'd up some as well: the harsh reality seems to have been softened. No, the plot hasn't been changed.

Some time in early April, similarly to Game of Thrones.

Well, Sidonia water saved his life. The design of that space suit is quite genius. That Youtube video shows leakage in the International Space Station can become a bio-hazard.

That picture....your a bad person. lol :P

I can't wait for season 2. Its been ages since we had hard sci-fi anime. In the mean time, I've been reading the Authors other manga. Some sweet cyberpunk stories, also very rare.

I agree about the hard sci-fi series. Watching this was like seeing a story co-operatively written by Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein and H. Beam Piper coming to life. It was really, really an outstanding season. I really hope they keep the same feel through the next season as they did in the first.

hahaha, that's not surprising. You think the themes in this show are acceptable and PC in America? I think not. I suppose its a sign of a good hard sci-fi series. They tend not to be PC.
