The cards are skill cards. Getting the skill cards means he can use the skills of the monsters that he defeats. It's definitely a power up from a useless human without attacking skills.

The cards turn into light and get sucked in his body.There are also skills he gets when meeting some conditions.He mastered many magics just by reading books.Thanks to the final evolution he got so good looking that the dugeon sheep(a spirit or something that is like a manager of all dugeons) made him hide his face(although the mc thinks it's because he is too ugly)...Just too cheat.
