Regarding PS3 Region..
Alright I had been in japan and bought a few PS2 games for myself, played them and had fun. PS2 broke and I bought a PS3.
Anyway, sadly I bought my PS3 in Canada around November/December, can't recall. I'm getting my PS2 jap games sent over if i want from family, decision is up to me. I want to know if I can play my PS2 jap games on my PS3 or is it the region lock thing on me?

PS3 games are not region locked. But PS1 and PS2 games are, if I'm not mistaken. Movies on blu-ray on the other hand are a mixed bag. Not everything is region-locked, and those that do use region coding that's totally different from the coding that dvd uses.
Since you're from Canada, you won't have problems PS3 games and with movies on blu-ray (North America and Japan both belong in Region A), but your JP PS2 games have to be played on a JP PS2 I'm afraid. |

I think the PAL ps3 can play ps2 games from japan since they are from the same DVD region(Region 2). Although Blu Ray Region is different from the DVD regions.
America, East Asia and SEA are region 1 while Aus and EU are in region 2. For DVD. US is region 1 and EU, Japan is region 2. Unless of course they are making the region lock by the bios. In which you will really need an asian ps3. |
