They skipped double the content covered by the both S1 and S2 to show the goddess arc. The goddess arc itself is twice the size of S1 and S2. And I assume this season is going only going to have 13 episodes.
Well this is going to be fun. |

I imagine the relevant information will be revisited at the appropriate time. I wonder how long it will be before someone drops a critical spoiler and gets a moderator axe to the face.
[mod edit: removed vague speculation about future content changes] The Goddess arc is a rather meaty one, I'm not sure how they'll cram it all into 13 episodes. It seems like 24 might be more suitable unless they really plan to cut corners. Last edited by relentlessflame; 2013-07-08 at 17:34. |

In the end, keep in mind that the first season was a split-cour show (planned from the start to have two 12-episode parts), so we don't actually know for sure that this season won't also be split-cour. All we know is that this part will be 12 episodes. Speculation about how the anime can cover the manga content (or what changes they may make) should go to the Spoiler & Speculation thread.

On one hand I'm glad that they're jumping right into the big Goddess Arc with no dragging about so that's good.
But on the other hand, they skipped about 5-6 character arc in the process! A number of which are actually FREAKING IMPORTANT 0_0 !!! First Hayate now this- Manglobe sure is giving the finger to Anime-Only viewers huh...

The episode itself was really well done, ending at a good stop with nice BGM. Almost got chill during the Kanon being watched portion.

*removes axe from face* Very funny. Not exactly what I meant since it's not a spoiler since it didn't reveal anything, but I'll concede the part about speculation.
Still it was a fun episode, even though I knew what happened it still felt appropriately tense. |

This was a very good start to the new season. I definitely felt the tension in the air. With the recap at the beginning that showed characters I have not seen before, I'm guessing they will skip those characters. As long as they don't randomly include certain characters doing things that don't make sense (Hayate), then I'm okay with this.
It is very possible that the skipped arcs will not be relevant to the current series, which will be fine by me. I'm just going to assume that the skipped arcs are more of the same as previous conquests, and that should allow me to watch this without much anguish. As for the episode itself, Kanon being back in the fold and Tenri as well makes for some excitement. Yes, there are finally girls that can remember Keima! The story can actually move forward now. Kanon truly confessed from the bottom of her heart! Woot! This is so awesome already. However, I was a little upset that Keima did not run after Kanon right away. He should have known she was in trouble with all that flustering and then the sudden appearance of a goddess. Oh well, I'm guessing Kanon is not dead yet, and hopefully, they are going to try and revive her.

Especially after Rozen Maiden I have to give some credit for making a recap that wasn't terrible, and was actually done well. They managed to monlogue all of the really important information and show off some of the things that happened without wasting an entire episode showing every single scene that's happened. Which is how you do a recap...
I didn't have reservations about this new season. Previous work was done well and faithfully, and this is yet another example. It was kind of weird to see something animated that I've actually read the manga of. That they skipped all the way up to where the goddess arc really starts was kind of interesting. The episode was a bit fast in its pacing but it's easy to understand why, when they have so much material to cover. Even so once Kanon got into the picture it all started to fit into place very nicely and matched the source. As Relentless said, there's a good chance they'll have to extend beyond 13 to cover this arc. From what I recall of it, it's simply too large and they shouldn't be able to cut out enough to cover it. As for the girls they skipped already, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to cover them in OVA form, since they're surprisingly good at packing a lot of scenes into 20 minutes without making the pacing feel like an F1 car. It's nice to be back!

Well... I don't really agree with the decision to skip all the other girl arcs, as some of them are rather important.
Still, if they had to do it, this was the way to do it. So I guess I can't be too angry.
