Well my tablet is an Intuos original 12x12 (my dad found out I was saving for a tablet and got the biggest he could find as a present years ago) and let me tell you... it's big! Really big! Way too big!!! Whereas I've played with my friend's 4x5 Intuos and it's too small for me.
So my suggestion is to try one out if at all possible. Even if it's a little more money, choose the correct size that gives you the most comfort. Which would be better in the long run. ...and yah, a tablet doesn't replace any drawing skills, but it did replace my markers.

my A4 size intuos^3 came today and the size is something like 17.3" x 13.4" x .6" need i say more? the damn thing costed me roughly around $600 i shall upload the photo soon |
