I mean, that show was already very Bebop-esque.

Makes sense. After all, my favourite episodes are not about the central plot about Vicious but the stand alone stories, which don't work in a film. Condensing everything into two and a half hours just don't work.

Wasn't Firefly inspired by Outlaw Star? Yes, OS, that anime that the Americans liked to compare with Bebop coz both space adventures aired in Toonami even though they're two different things especially the tone. IIRC FF even ripped off the "mysterious girl in the suitcase" from OS.

You've probably seen this already: Netflix will produce the live action series.
https://twitter.com/NXOnNetflix/stat...44277847539712 Well, just in time for the "a Netflix adaptation" memes. |

^ Is Keanu Reeves still interested in playing Spike? He's once again a big star now due his John Wick movies which are practically one of the biggest action movie franchises today that's not superhero or comic property.

It would be criminal if they don't get Keanu Reeves on board for that project. The guy is a big anime fan himself, and he's definitely familiar with Cowboy Bebop.
That being said, it would be fun to see Keanu! Spike as a laid back version of John Wick with the same martial arts and gunslinging skills. |

They're still confused about Ed casting. Figures.
Ed is a really difficult character to pull off in live-action because she's practically a cartoon character in plenty of her screen-time. To properly translate her, they need to find a young and petite actress who is gifted with the comedic talents that is a perfect combination of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey. Good luck trying to find such genius performer.

Looks like they halted the production for 7-9 months because of John Cho's knee injury on set. Hope he recovers well.

Netflix's Cowboy Bebop Is Here and Ready to Jam
"We’ve had teases, we’ve had casting, we’ve even had Yoko Kanno. But now, after a long, long wait, we’ve got our first look at the crew of the Bebop for Netflix’s live-action take on the seminal Shinichirō Watanabe anime, ahead of its release this November. And yes, John Cho looks incredible as Spike Spiegel." See: https://gizmodo.com/netflixs-cowboy-...jam-1847530526 |

My immediate gut reaction after staring at those pics:
So yeah. My initial reaction is disappointment. Let's see if the show can make up for it.

^ Okay, here's my initial gut reaction for the OP:
It's good.....but on the level of a fan project. Like, I still don't sense the spirit yet. You see, in the original OP, you see shots of Spike & Faye smiling so you know there's some fun & playfulness there. Here, Spike looks old, tired & no fun (Faye was kinda saved by that distant shot of her smiling). To quote the Joker: "Why so serious?" ......and Ed's not there.

The Japanese voice actors will reprise their roles for the Japanese dub of the live action. I don't think it's too surprising, since once you have a role in an anime, you have it for life (barring exceptions), but it's still interesting.

John Cho as Spike, huh...
Having watched a rerun of Harold and Kumar Go to Whitecastle on TV recently, now I keep imagining Spike and Jet stuck in a toilet stall while 2 random ladies in the neighbouring cubicles play battleshits against each other... |
