Still, that is not the whole story. Fumito does succeed in changing Saya: he humanizes her, so that even after she returns to her old self, she wants to protect humans from the furukimonos, she continues to think of Tadayoshi as her father, and she reciprocates apparently Itsuki's sympathy for her. If the show was purely misanthropic, it would share Fumito's disdain for Saya's newly-acquired human qualities, but it does not. So Blood-C is not purely misanthropic, even though the humans in the show do their level best to justify such misanthropy. Blood-C is a philosophical drama, about what makes people human, and what counts as human values. Complaints about characterization sacrificed for the sake of plot however excellently argued miss this point. |

The highlight of the final episode of Tadayoshi and Saya's entire fight especially when he went furukimono saiyan, not many can deny that. (Plus the animation was the shit. They were holding back all this time for what reason? Budget cuts?) I also like how it ended, with the little scene between the two of them. It was sort of a nice way for Tadayoshi to die, having Saya addressing him as Father one final time, despite his actions.
As for the rest... I liked the way Tokizane and the twins died (the latter was painfully brutal in a sort of awesome way, and the former was funny as hell -- Tokizane's yell was priceless and he was dealt with so quickly, lol). At first I really didn't want Kanako to die, but then I remember how damned selfish and greedy she was being, and all of her wailing was getting annoying along with seeing her face altogether, so when she finally got offed I was glad. I couldn't give two shits about class prez, with his extremely under-developed and oh-so-vanilla ass. I didn't know whether to be horrified, to be sickened to my stomach, or burst out into laughter @ the town massacre scene. Quote:
I also burst out into laughter ANY time the soldiers fired bullets. Class prez protecting Saya? Load him with bullets (and was still alive long enough to talk to Saya somehow?). Townspeople actors running after the cars? A flurry of bullets. Trying to climb the fence? A SHOWER OF BULLETS. Hilarious. Absolutely HILARIOUS. I will most likely watch the movie when it comes out. There's no way I can leave this unfinished. I'm also somewhat pissed that since the dog was given no further explanation, we are forced to assume (unless stated otherwise) that it's Watanuki. Really, CLAMP? Really? =_= |

Am I the only person pretty much totally satisfied with the series save for the cliffhanger?
Also, I'm pretty sure the implication was that "You cannot kill humans" was the price Saya gave Watanuki for "staying herself." The Elder Bairn thing is just her natural food chain.

I'm always appreciative of a good mind screw, and these last two episodes did a pretty decent job of that....but the brutality was just horrible to watch, even censored. Maybe some people think it's funny but I wasn't laughing. Fictional or not I would never wish those kind of deaths on anyone, and even though you don't see all of the damage to the body (finally a good reason for censorship), the screams, crunches, and squishes just made me cringe to the point where I wanted to mute it and look away.
Still, I was in awe of the fight with her father. The animation was incredible and the choreography was top notch, especially her finishing move. There were no speed lines or other animation cop outs, and simply put it just looked cool. I also liked the final dialogue as he died, it was really just perfect how they treated those scenes. Still....the brutal deaths were just too much. I haven't seen this much senseless gore porn in a long time, and I don't think it helped the narrative then or now.

So, they kill off all the character so systematically and predictably while making them so shallow I don't care to see them die painful bloody deaths. Then, they bring them back, but they are shallow in the opposite way, so when they die painful bloody deaths a second time I STILL don't care.
Ok... |

all the characters deaths in this series are similar to latest mortal kombat's fatalities....
example, Twins deaths got noob saibot style... BTW, all the matter is waiting for the real Blood style in movie. And hope Saya not alone to fight the war as where the heck are the RED SHIELD... |

Fight scene between Saya and her dad was pretty awesome. Aside from that, I'm disappointed that when the show really starts getting interesting.... it ends. D:
Also not a fan of the pointless gore. Like blood in fight scenes is ok, I like that.... but stuff like the giant blender scene was just too over the top and out of place imo. |

From reading the last couple pages on this thread, I think I'll skip the final episode. I watched this anime for great action scenes, out of an appreciation for CLAMP's artistic style, and (after the first few episodes) for the intrigue of what plot revelations would eventually be made. Gore, in and of itself, holds little interest to me, and from what I've gathered, the final episode is simply bathed in gore.
In fairness to CLAMP, there is a considerable overlap between vampire fans and gore fans (just look at the Blade movies that have been made). There is a market for this sort of material, although how large it is within the anime fan community is debatable. Though I'll likely skip watching the final episode, there is one point I want to make pertaining to the possible theme of this work. Perhaps the question Blood-C is posing is this: What does it mean to be human? Is it simply a matter of biology, or is it something more philosophical than that? So, in answering its own question, Blood-C presents us with a bunch of human characters that viewers will probably not find terribly likable, and then it presents us with a technically non-human (or at least not fully human) character in Saya. But, when it's all said and done, which character in this anime came off the most "human"? If it's Saya, then maybe there's a point being made there.

So after watching the last episode, my complaint will be the same as everyone last, not that much character development. They should have make all the characters have more development instead solely on Saya, which develops in a very snail pace.
Loved the fight scene between Saya and Tadayoshi, one of the best fights I've seen. When class pres helped Saya I thought finally someone from the series going to be by Saya's side in her quest of slaying Fumito in the movie (because I already figured out the guimauve guy will escape unharmed early on) but nope, he's dead too. Damn it, my romance fangirl side is not satisfied of this, CLAMP. Oh well, at least two guys cared about Saya even though she's inhuman. Totally love Saya at the end, she's so bad-ass and amazing. I will watch the movie just for Saya, and I hope Yuka gets a major role in the movie, maybe as the governor of Tokyo. It will be just a waste if the sole survivor just thrown away in the movie. And I guess Watainu will appear in the movie too? |
