I seriously can't warm up to Kobayashi. She was mostly ok, a bit bland but ok till she started drinking again. I mean, if she were an endearing drunk, it wouldn't be that bad, but apparently she's a horrible drunk. Which ended up being my main gripe with ep 1.

Actually Kobayashi is the best character in a while, liked her more then every other characters. She's a completely nuts "normal person," the fact she acts for all intents and purposes mostly like a guy makes her even more entertaining to watch.

yeah she is your "tonboyshi female character almost like a "gender bender" that is why probably thooru fall in love with her lol, the bad side is which they can't ending having "childrens" since both are female(actually to be honest i aways not was sure about tohru gende if she was really a female or a "male dragon which "homo side"), i really enjoy this serie the author here really love to make good funny things(the only thing i feel weird toward him is his "obvious love for big or even really "big breats" cuz some of his works ending have "large(like G cupe) cleavage girls, he really have a thing for it.

I was rather looking forward to this and glad its as good as expected One thing that did blindside me was the tone through. I was expecting just a lighthearted giggles train, but it seems this Dragon Maid has baggage that could lead to be a bit of emotional depth too.
Also the dragons in this show are -proper- dragons for once! If it ain't final boss material, it's not a dragon *nods nods* |

In this particular universe, humanity and dragons have a troubled relationship. This is already implied when Locoa asked at the end of the phone call, "did you enjoy living amongst humans"?

The idea is cute and some of the comedy was fun but in the end it's your typical fish-out-of-the-water comedy with random bits of ecchi. Why did it only take one conversation to get a dragon who considers humans inferior to lust after one? Why does a reptile magically transformed into a human have big boobs? Why is Kobayashi's first thought when criticising Tohru's maid ability to strip her down in public and see how she reacts? This is one of the cases where the need for fanservice gets in the way of whatever little story there even is. Could have been better.
But kudos to the protagonist being an adult working as a coder! Finally someone I can relate to .

And, you know, she is a bad drunk.

Well, of course they make up random excuses for it. The point is they're random. We both know the real reason for those three things is in fact "fanservice".
It's not that I think the show is bad per se, I don't. I just think it could have been a bit more graceful in integrating its fanservicey elements (well, not even the show runners, I guess the fault falls on the source material here).

No, I'm sure you're saying the truth, I'm saying that they're going to make up some excuses for those things, but that the reason for them is secondary anyway to the fact that "horny lesbian maid with big boobs" makes for good fanservice, which is the actual reason.

A thing I never thought reading the manga but strike me like a lighting in the anime is the resemblance in general lines/plot to haiyore nyaruko-san, maybe because Touru seiyu sound very close to Kana Asumi , including some of the mannerism for the character.

well most of them are the more generic ones like battle ones" specially in "harem gender"., here is just a slice of life about dragons trying to living with modern humans and learn about the humans life and try to reduce the big "black hole between the 2 races since past ages.
