Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought Ayumu Murase was a voice actor (man) and not a voice actress (woman)? *^_^;;

There will be more, as surely as the sun will rise in the East. This is going to be a major commercial hit.

Haha Time for Volleyball!

Well that was a great start. We got the whole first chapter (50 some pages worth.) I'm thinking if it keeps up this pacing it'll be an exciting weekly watch. Both the OST and animation were excellent as well. I just hope they can keep it consistent. I'm glad it's 25 episodes because I needed a replacement for Kuroko and it looks like I've found it.

I'm definitely looking forward to more.

I really liked the first episode, excited to see how the two main characters work together on the court. There's also no magic voodoo or anything for those on the fence about it being the second coming of KuroBas.

This episode has some really nice animation too. I wonder if they'll be able to keep it up.

Omg, the main character is soooo cuuuuuute! *screams*

I started watching the first episode thinking "i hate volleyball" but the characters and cute style won me over xD
Actually the overall style reminded me of Big Windup a lot.

High school (junior high) volleyball.
Emotional reactions were amusing.
Their first match was disappointing.
After all the effort they made to get here..
I felt sorry for Shoyo the most.
High school will be his chance to fulfill his dream.
Seriously thinking about watching this series.

I guess we're better off calling Sunday ABH Sport Sunday from now on, till at least the end of one of the series.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is this show even better animated than Kuroko no Basuke? It'd be real sick if they maintained this level of animation throughout the rest of the series. Seems like I.G.'s putting more money into this than their prized possession.

AOTY Overall, it's a really solid first episode. Music and animation weren't half bad, I'd even say they were damn amazing.
They even did pretty well in transposing the feels from the manga panels into the TV screen. Actually, I feel like it's a massive improvement from the manga's first chapter, in my opinion. The way they did the small cuts leading to Hinata's first spike almost made me cry manly tears.

But yeah, those body movements were the best, especially the ones in the OP. It's damn realistic and sweet for the eye. Holy $h!t they were.
Thank you, IG. Thank you so much.
I wish they can keep this quality 'till the end.

I knew what was coming and I still wanted to cry a bit. :P The music used for the part with his incorporated flash back sequence really helped to bring out the emotion.

Really, really nice. Maybe it's just because volleyball was one of the few sports I could play half-decently in hs, but I definitely got into it.

Good work by Ishikawa Kaito as the King of the Court. Strong, pure personality. I hope and trust they will end up working hard together.

Why am I feeling a similarity with Giant Killing? No staff or cast in common. In any case, Baby Steps ep1 didn't grab me like this episode did.

The main character is voiced by Murase Ayumu, who is still in his mid-teens (I believe, contrary to Japanese Wikipedia, which says he's 25), maybe around 16. Here's a pic of the cast:

That's interesting, for me it was the opposite. While admitting from the outset that sports anime are generally a hard sell for me I felt the first ep of Baby Steps way more engaging than this one. I wonder why? One of those things, perhaps.

Anyway I prolly won't be following this one.
