Well it was mentioned on her blog that she marathoned the Dragonball and Dragonball Z manga. It's also nice to hear her voice Dende in Dragonball Kai.

Well a pretty solid start. Would agree that I hope they can visually show the emotions of the characters a little better. Just the first episode in so hopefully that can improve as the series moves on.

Considering the massive damage from this first episode I think Lucy better get used to running away from the authorities at top speed

. Plus Aquarius really has quite the attitude. Talk about a dangerous person to summon

.

Should be an interesting ride at any rate.

First impressions: a bit too flashy, I didn't like the magic circle effect, they better lose the dragons in the bg later on too...and why the heck was Bora's fire purple?!
Anywho, besides the previously commented lack of sentiment in the art, there wasn't much in the VAs either, and I'll take Zwei's side on this one, Natsu's voice is a bit too deep. Not that it HAS TO be Luffy-like and all, but I guess the battles will show...
For a first episode they sure skipped through a lot and included not-so-interesting stuff, hopefully they'll do better later on. Oh, the OP was great for starters.

I will keep on watching though the humor is awesome XD I love the manga so I'll support the series as well
Though I always imagined Natsu's voice to be more like Luffy's, hearing him like this makes me go D: lol whut.. it'll take some time getting used to that's for sure

Although I complained about it as well, it's not tooooo tragic, as long as it gets better later on

if they add the serious character expressions they had in the manga into the anime

more people will definitely compare this with One Piece or call it a clone....

Well if you compare the manga one-peice vs Fairy tale they feel very similar.

What this show actually gets serious? I thought it was another slapstick mahou show. I actually found this one entertaining. I don't know where all this fuss about low animation is about. It looks fine to me, much better than other shounen shows like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, etc. so far. At least the art is consistent so far, with no deformed heads and limbs yet. The cat's voice is kind of weird, but I can get used to it.

Horriblesubs videos are kinda laggy to me,small pauses every few seconds.I never read the manga before,first episode is okay...I guess.Rie <33

Decent episode, albeit horrible animation quality. About every other new Fall series I've seen has better quality. I'm disappointed the art/character expressions aren't truthful to the manga.

Mostly the art style, and even then--just the facial expressions. My first reading of Fairy Tail I thought it was one of Oda's works.

As for story and character, they share the theme of "fantasy story w/protagonist and his/her nakama progressing through the world." but the comparisons end there. (Personally--I find One Piece more detailed and enjoyable in every aspect, but Fairy Tail has its merits.)

The other things people are mentioning.. are things you see in most shounen manga, to be honest. A gluttonous character, group of friends running about, spazzy protagonist etc.~
And ehhh, I never thought of Luffy once while looking at Natsu.

Actually, he made me think of Black *Star.. xD

But yeah.. not seeing this "clone" business.. ._.

I feel like im the only one who thinks that the first episode was really good and actually have nothing to complain about. To me it most definitly has the Fairy Tail feeling (which is nothing like OP IMO) from the manga that I've read.

9/10 which is a very good first episode rating in my opinion.
