I hope they take the content on volume 2 or maybe the new volume with the side stories. I wont hold my breath tho, after how the anime was a hit and miss.

^ They already covered the train getting hijacked by terrorists in the anime so they can't do volume 2.

Gilbert will probably come back but in a new, anime-original storyline.

Stop misguiding people. Because studio lost part of materials (or even the whole progress) it does not mean that it will cancel all unfinished projects.

That ANN article doesn't have any Japanese source nor it says the projects are cancelled (restarted/delayed yes). Kyoani has yet to release any statement regarding the fate of their upcoming movies.

Remember, Kyoani has three studio (now two). It is unknown how much of VEG movie was done in studio 1 (that got burned), but chance of everything went up to flame is slim.

Spoiler for Maybe?: If that's a hint then there are 2 options, one is another original story in this movie which is not the best choice imho or the second option is the comeback of Gilbert in the movie so we can say this is going to include volume 2. I hope is the second option.
