I feel waaaay too lucky... and DwarD is right, it's bee nraining loads today, yesterday and the day before. Look up in the sky and there is simply no dash of yellow anywhere. CLouds everywhere, and it's so cold (well, relatively - I don't think it's gone over 30C the past few days!)... Just cos bits of Sumatra are blocking us we are completely spared. We are actually closer to the epicentre than Sri Lanka iirc. Definitely closer than Somalia!

If I remember correctly you're from Singapore right? Well if that tsunami had hit shingapore your country would be gone by now, not to mention a very high amount of victims

Some other really bad news I've been hearing : On Sri Lanka the Tamil controlled area's are not or hardly recieving any help at all, same goes for certain seccesionist area's in Indonesia. I can't believe those governments would use this to strengthen their position ...

Oh My God! I am speechless.... I can't even imagine how terrible those waves were.

My sympathies to those who lost everything during that horrible tragedy.



PS. Please God don't let a Tsunami like that hit Japan too! I want to keep watching anime forever!

Japan has increased its aid to $ 500 million total including aid, other nations (including the US) are thinking to raise their aids as well. France already pledge to give $ 57 million despite the doubt of their more "stingy" country despite the humanitarian attitude.

and the US Marines has arrived in Aceh for giving direct aid for its people, mainly for transportation from their military helicopters and other aid from the US. More to come are to be expected from the US though. $ 350 million was only a start.

Despite the generousity, I feel like this is also kinda a race for public image.

Im am pleased to see that powerful nations such as Japan and the US have increased their contribution. Nothing but respect, US started out sketchy but they made up.

Im not fond on making estimates about this but I have a feeling we will near half a million casualties when everything is truly accounted for. Truly making it one of the more terrible disasters in human history.

Updated :

- Asian Development Bank has contributed about $325 million.

- Sweden, being the country that has the largest casualities from Thailand, pledges $ 75 Million.

Spain also contributed but I dont know the exact numbers, just saw them at CNN.

The UN Humanatarian Leader said that Global Relief Pledge are near $ 2 Billion.

The good thing is the numbers are still increasing in the near future.

Those pictures are scary man, everything just wiped off the map. Unbelievable.

British public raised more money than the £50million ($96million) pledge of the British government, now that is something.

1900 Galveston Hurricane (deadliest US nat'l disaster): ~10,000 dead
Hiroshima Nuclear Attack: ~140,000 in 1945
Death Toll in Tsunami Disaster to date: 138,631 confirmed, thousands missing

So just to let those hard-headed, heartless bastards who attempt to say this is just nature righting it's self know: Each one of those people that died in this disaster had a life, just like yours. They lived it, and they died doing whatever they were doing due to no consequence of their own, except for perhaps not making enough money. The fact you can even write in this forum is a gift you should be THANKFUL for. You have internet. That's something that I'm sure most of those people that died in the Tsunami could only dream of. Get off your high horse and be thankful of where you are today.

Canada has pledged $80 Million dollars soo far, and Canadians have donated over $35 Million dollars. Soo far though, there is very little actual Canadian presence.

This may sound "GAY" or whatever you wanna call it but to me it is just so beautiful to see that the world is so united at the moment, so much, that even all the wars and chaos seem to have vanished for just an instand from to world, so that we all children, adults, truck drivers, nurses, students, fishermen, in laws, politicians and terrorist are working together to help those in need.

Terrorists don't just wake up in the morning and think "hey, let’s terrorize someone" they immensely believe in what ever it is they are fighting for.

In some cases there is a fine line between a terrorist and a freedom fighter.

Don't get me wrong I’m not supporting terrorism it's just that there is always two sides of the story.

So in short to just brand all terrorists inhuman without knowing all the facts is a bit rash in my opinion, but hey I guess that's just your opinion.
