part of Vol 7 Chapter 10: "As numerous players held their breaths, Yuuki and Kazuto used high level sword skills, including their own OSS, showing an abnormally dazzling and intense battle. This battle lasted more than 10 minutes, and finally, Yuuki used a brilliant god-like skill to defeat Kirito in 11 straight hits, and the crowd immediately roared and cheered in a way where it could shake the entire virtual world. Having defeated Kirito, who made lots of legends—even though he didn't use his Dual Blades skill—«Absolute Sword» Yuuki was crowned the 4th champion of the tournament, and her name spread through the whole game of ALO, becoming a famed person throughout all users of «The Seed» Nexus." |

After Aincrad arc, Kirito only Dual Wields on several occassion. In example are when he's fighting Eugene, fighting the Grand Tree troops quest, and when his/his friends life are in danger. Other than those circumstances he won't use it.

^ I'll second that opinion. any hardcore gamer would know, once you get into a 1v1 PvP duel with a good player, you'd get really into it. Kirito has experienced this many times during his days in VRMMOs. I think as soon as Kirito realized how good Absolute Sword was, he'd be going all out.
According to the LN, Kirito was fighting seriously until about midway, at which point he said something to Absolute Sword (presumably guessing her situation), after that, I don't think he has it in him to finish the fight and he more or less backed down. |

hmm, both of you guys make good points. however the gut feeling I got from the LN was that Kirito didn't step up and use dual blades because he didn't want to... As for being disrespectful, seeing as Yuuki isn't there to simply test her skills, but rather to find a partner, it may not be as bad as it sounds for Kirito to back down. as for some reason I feel like he didn't want to get too involved, and Yuuki said they can't recruit him as he had guessed their intentions.
Kirito did encourage Asuna to duel Yuuki afterall, maybe he intended for Asuna and Yuuki to become friends from the beginning? That guy acts dumb as a brick half the time and is super insightful during all the other times lol |

yet, he has never before simply backed down before an OP opponent... bottom line, Kirito typically tries his best...
I don't know, it is puzzling Edit: In addition, Kirito is not slower than Asuna, yet he couldn't even force Yuuki to use her combo (mother's rosario)... how do you call that trying his best? Last edited by Vmem; 2012-10-10 at 14:41. Reason: to add a comment |

So you can't use this argument to suggest Kirito wasn't giving his all. He was at his best for that particular situation, just like her.
