S;G 16 - To bind us to each other, togetherness of living

8:57, simulcast time. The truth is finally said aloud, by Mayuri of all people. Itaru and Suzuha are family. That was such a heartwarming scene. Father and daughter reunited after 16 episodes, accentuated by the simple piano piece. Really speaks to the bonds of family, even though most of this series is friendship-based.

Then I was surprised (but perhaps shouldn't have been so) when the episode did a 180 on itself. Poor Suzuha. No wonder Rintaro was motivated to use D-Mail again. He needs to push it farther - if there were ever a time to use D-Mail with planned haste, now is that time. 40% is sizable. and Mayuri seems okay, for now, so in spite of the 180, it's really more like a 75. Things are alright. Or at least they're looking up.

Things usually do once the pieces fall into place.

With the speculation going on a few episode back about Daru possibly being Suzuha father kinda ruined it for me.

Suzuuuuha T__T Damn it, the second part was really sad. The letter with "I failed. I failefd. I failed" was the saddest part.

However, for me, it doesn't mean that we will not see Suzuha again. Don't forget that the Suzuha we know is the daughter of Daru. Daru is still here and in the futur, he will probably have a baby named Suzuha. This Suzuha will then travel back in 2010 to do the same thing than the previous one (if things are not okay).

I think the saddest thing of this serie is that Okabe is the only one who has all these memories. The other don't have them. In the end, only him will know everything and only him will witness all these sad parts or happy one. How can you not become crazy because of this

Mayuri figured it out, always knew she was smart. Nice scene when they embraced. Too bad she died without completing her mission. Desperate measures for a desperate situation. Saw the d-mail increased the divergence meter a little and Mayuri is safe for now. Hopefully she won't die this time.

So they made it in order for Suzuha to die around the year 2000 or 2001, which would coincide with the John Titor postings from around that time.

Mayuri looks so peaceful in her sleep, but this could be another silence before the storm.

Kurisu was no where to be seen during the end. Where could she be, and what is she up to? Also, did she end up making the time leap machine in this world, since he sent a D-mail?

Also, did Suzuha leave them an IBN 5100? If so, where is it?

So this has been bothering me for a few episodes now, but why can't Okabe just learn how to build that time-machine / memory-send-back machine and then just keep going back like however many days he can go back (was it 48 hours or something?) Rebuild it, go back another 48 hours and repeat process until he gets back to whenever he needs to get back to?

It seems to take at least two days to complete the time leap machine, so they'd need to figure out how to expand its range of leaping before that method would do anything.

Suzuha's ending in the original game depicts this very well. About what Okarin had to do, and how his mentality gradually changes as he uses the time leap machine again and again. One of my favorite endings of the game.

Spoiler in the epi 14 thread (iirc) demolished any sense of shockness of Daru being Suzuha's Dad.. though tbh it still won't be much of a shock considering how much hints were dropping around.

I was really, really happy for Suzuha who had finally found her dad and the next moment, the mood changes as it was revealed she broke down mentally (that letter..) and suicided... way to go Steins;Gate

After the D-mail, there wasn't any mention of her going mental but instead she passed away due to an illness. I'm guessing this means she either found the IBN5100 or she didn't regain her memory as to whom she really was but that "Helping someone else" line suggests otherwise. Ahhhh questions, questions !!

Well that would be two days under the situation where Kurisu is not exactly 100% sure of what she's doing right? I mean it might take me an hour to put together a puzzle the first time around, but if I do it over and over again, I might get so fast at it that I can shave off a few minutes or half an hour. Any extra time would save you a lot and that all adds up. Unless there is some part to it that actually takes 48 hours for it to fully activate, which would be so...whack

Actually there are, I think, (speculation) two answer for what happened :

Mayuri is not safe and will die after.
Mayuri is safe but because of that, Kurisu is dead (killed at the beggining). That's why we don't see her in the end of this episode. She's dead.

My take on this version is just that Okabe didn't stop her from going to that forum and taking the time-machine to go back to the 1970's. She probably didn't find the IBN5100 or else there would be bigger changes imo/they would be using it in the lab most likely. That means she didn't lose her memory, but rather died from illness during her mission. I.e. - she was trying until the last second (the shopkeeper talks about how she kept looking at the divergence meter, so she def. had her memories at that point, and if she didn't leave a letter for okabe, then it's probably that she didn't go into a mental frenzy where she blamed herself for living "20 some odd years without remembering her mission".

Oh my...this episode was actually a bit of a tear jerker for me

Out of all the people, Mayushii figured out that Daru was indeed Suzuha's father. There reunion was awkward, yet really touching.

The time machine is fixed and Suzuha travels back to the past to get an IBN5100. The lab members wait, but then Mr. Braun then gives a message to Okarin from Suzuha...and she failed. She lost her memories because the time machine still wasn't completely fixed...and she committed suicide

Okarin then realizes it was all his fault when he sent a D-mail to stop Suzuha from leaving during the raining night, so he sends another D-mail to cancel that D-mail. This actually causes the Divergence meter to go up from .33 to .4.

Although it isn't past the 1% divergence, it seems to have altered Mayuri's fate a bit. Apparently there is no bomb threat yet and the hourglass is intact. This still isn't over yet though, they are still in the Beta timeline which means Mayuri may still die sooner or later.

Now about Suzuha, did anyone notice that she mentioned in the letter that she remembered Okabe sending the D-mail to stop her from leaving that rainy night? Okabe is the only one with the Reading Steiner, so only he should...yet Suzuha somehow remembered.

Speculation ! But I don't think I'm wrong since the only moment that we crossed the 1% was in the first episode.

He told her in one of the episode about that.

Did he? I don't quite remember when he did.

EDIT: Rewatched a few scenes in episode 15. He briefly mentioned it to Suzuha so you're right.

Alice from Memo-chou, it looks like you got some serious compe- no, you know what, Mayuri is far and away the winner of the cutest, most adorable detective of the season. But really, the hints are a bit too obvious, Okabe and Daru I believe but not even Kurisu got it? She must really have a lot on her mind...

That's as far as the fun part goes though, the rest of the episode is really sad. Goodbye part time warrior, your sacrifices will not be forgotten. They manage to delay it a bit, but there's still 0.6% to go...I really hope in the beta timeline, somehow Suzuha can return to hang out with them again too.
