Is there a significance to the name "Porter Robinson" in this case? The only person I can google up with that name is this one, and I'm not sure he's the one being referred to here... unless he inexplicably is

People would do anything for their children's survival even if it sounds unreasonable or irrational. That was beautiful. I hope she will encounter an alien race so they can take her out of her virtual reverie. Hah! I'm letting my bias seep in as if that would be good for her.
Absolutely beautiful!

Around 7 years more or less, just floating in space alone
I do kinda feel like this premise could be expanded into at last a 3-4 episode OVA, just to flesh out the story a bit more, and preferably with a better ending than just drifting in space for eternity. Edit: From reddit, here's the translation of the message that arrived for Rin: Spoiler for message:

It doesn't seem like a conventional cryogenic technology since her body is still growing and her brain is also active. So how was it possible to keep her a live for 7 years? So my point is perhaps the limited resource would be enough to sustain her a lifespan as long as she stay in that state. We don't know where that rocket is heading toward either. Perhaps it is going toward the nearest M-planet. Alpaha Centauri is only 4 light years away. Half of light speed would take about 8 years to get there, so in an essence she is a star traveler. And during her journey if she comes across an alien race that can bring her out of her comatose state, her dad's will for her to carry on is a success. See, it's not all too bad. Her dad was not without hope no matter how absurd it seemed as soon as he made the choice for her to live.

She'll create a new world of virtual life forms. It seems like that's what that world creator might ultimately be for. Otherwise he could just stick her in a endless chain of simulations until she dies or she gets rescued by aliens.

Now this is an awesome analysis of the piece I found (somewhat reformatted so it isn't a wall of text):

I don't think I've seen so much emotional impact in a short Anime since Makoto Shinkai's first work Voices of a distant star. That's pretty high praise: the visuals were great, the animation goes without saying and they manage to pull major impact out of 6 minutes without even anyone talking in a way that puts many full length movies to shame. 10/10, would view again.
