Fixing LCD monitor problems

http://www.jscreenfix.com/

The link above is what I got from another forum but not much useful opinions there and the thread just died.

What I have in my LCD monitor(Acer AL1706) is that there is a kind of transparent horizontal bar that I can only see if there is relatively dark color in that area(not black or close to it).
If I go that site in section just below "introduction" that is "JScreenFix applet", it says there "The JScreenFix Java applet helps fix stuck pixels and image persistence on LCD screens and reduces burn-in on plasma screens.". So I suppose this problem of mine is called "image persistence on LCD screens".

So what's your ppl opinion of this? Should I try this... humm... 12h running... aghr.

I just want to make sure but have you connected your computer to a different monitor and used different cables. Because if if you haven't it might be a hardware problem.

I got a curious queation about LCD monitors. Can LCD monitors also have an imaged burned onto them if the screensaver never comes up??

I know on the old monitors that can that happen but can it happen with LCD monitors too? I don't plan to try it but I would like to know.

Unless pixels become "stuck" (which is what many "LCD fix" programs try to fix) then it shouldn't be possible. I think screen savers are a bit of a relic; these days, it's better to put the monitor into a low-power "sleep" mode, especially since LCDs have a pretty short time to fire up.

ok Cool, I never really knew if the LCD monitors have that issue or not but it looks like they don't.

Thanks for the info

the pixels can become worn so it looks like burn in and is effectively the same thing but basically certain pixels just dont display as 'brightly' or with as much 'contrast' as the rest. there is a fix for it though, it seems.

there is a subject about it in the link in the first post in this thread by wolf.

@Tiberium Wolf,

It could be backlight related too ... because it is strange that it affects whole pixel line (imo if this applies for your monitor then it is a design failure/feature and nothing can be done).

Oh shit!

Yesterday I was playing a old Dos game in Doxbox for 4-5 hours in a windowed mode (coz it wouldn't let me do in full screen) and when closed the window I saw the window transparent mark on the screen. Yes... oh shit! I could really see the letter of the windpw title bar marked there!!! Didn't seem to be gone even after I turned off the screen.

I tried jscreenfix for 8h and it did go away. Man I need to be careful. I always have screen saver on after 5m but this situation passed on me coz I was too addicted to the game.
