Hey, I’ve just been rewatching some of these older shows out of curiosity. And man, this one has not held up well, for all the reasons I mentioned.

But it has made me want to write my own take on the later episodes, cringey as that sounds.

Yeah, it's a series that had a lot of potential that got squandered sadly due to poorly thought out plot developments.

I know I keep harping on it, but the wasted potential of Haruto and Saki’s relationship I felt was a huge problem.

Both of them managed to grow as characters through it. Had they continued on with it, I think it would’ve made for great character development. Haruto finally sees that there’s someone who is willing to shoulder his burden and won’t punish him for being inhuman, but accepts that side of him, and he can finally stop feeling ashamed or scared of that part of him (seriously, that Tumblr post I hope is wrong, because it just makes him completely unlikeable if true). Meanwhile, Saki now finds someone who gives her unconditional kindness, is able to no longer be alone, and has something worth fighting for beyond just fame and glory.

The ingredients are all there for a compelling relationship, and yet the writers completely drop it, in favor of ones that exist solely to add more melodrama (and why on earth pairing Saki up with A-Drei is so popular amongst Japanese artists I’ll never understand).

Technically they did. Valvrave is in SRW DD.

Indeed, it's one of the places where Saki gets to shine again aside from the Pachislot promotions.

Now if only they'd bother to use all this and make another season.

I think Saki and the glass eye got their own spinoff mangas but they don't expand that much about their characters.

Saki’s spinoff manga did her character far more justice than the show.

Frankly, the anime would’ve been much better if it incorporated its elements.

Did the game alter the story like other series tend to have? They tend to go so far that Char's Counterattack doesn't happen in one installment.

Not quite sure, though it did still include the infamous moment.
