That's a great way to get Ecuador to hand him over.... not. What stupid mid-level idiot thought threatening an embassy over a non-violent asylum seeker was a good idea?

Not surprised at all, as it's always the routine for some failing one-hit/has-been performers (well, lots of it in a crowded industry): screw up big time, stare at bankruptcy, and wind up in an AV (yeah, Perfect Blue comes to mind).

Twelve Unanswered Questions about the Gu Kailai Case

I'm still trying to understand the motive.

"The prosecution stated that Ms. Gu hatched the plot to kill Mr. Heywood when she was told that he had detained and kidnapped her son in Britain after their business deal soured. The only evidence shown in court was an early November e-mail from Mr. Heywood, who wrote to Ms. Gu’s son, Bo Guagua, 'You will be destroyed.' But by then, her son was already in the United States, studying at Harvard. "

So first they say they will raid the embassy, and now they are saying Assange would not be given "safe passage"? What are they planning to do? Blow up the plane?

The Progressive story is the fundamental flaw in the concept of incorporation -- it is *only* about the money and only in a short term view. There's no incentive at all to be a good member of the community, to do the *right* thing, to make good on your products. Someone in the Progressive Inc. command structure calculated that the lawyer expenses would be less than just paying out. Well, it backfired in spades - their accountants wouldn't even know how to compute the lost business ripples.

I don't think than such behavior can be considered as ''coverage''.

No.... it doesn't say in the contract "we will do our best to avoid paying out legitimate claims". The crime investigation results from the police should have been sufficient. Actually *assigning* a Progressive lawyer to defend the perp? No, I think that it is a fail.... you notice that Progressive higher-ups immediately leaped to reach an agreement (pay them a bunch of hush money) to make up... and whoever made the decision is likely to be looking for work (i.e. scapegoated because they were motivated by their performance metrics that led to that kind of decision).

Kentucky Lawmakers Shocked to Find Evolution in Biology Tests

Here are some absolutely golden quotes:

From Representative Ben Waide:
Quote:
The theory of evolution is a theory, and essentially the theory of evolution is not science—Darwin made it up.
...
Under the most rudimentary, basic scientific examination, the theory of evolution has never stood up to scientific scrutiny.
What?!

Senator David Givens:
Quote:
I would hope that creationism is presented as a theory in the classroom, in a science classroom, alongside evolution.
These men are leaders in their community? That's embarrassing.

I was going to say just that but it's sad you know? It's sad because it keeps spiralling down from there. Leaders are elected by the people and therefore tend to represent the points of view of the majority. The majority is apparently behind a wrong, misinformed and uneducated viewpoint and therefore, out of ignorance, demands that such viewpoint be taken into account on the education system. Children are taught that the aforementioned wrong viewpoint is in fact valid. Said children become adults who will in turn elect leaders who share their viewpoint. The cycle goes on.

This is dangerous and makes a convincing argument for a Technocracy (which is sadly a scary concept in itself).
