"Still, putting it so politely was also distinctly Japanese. Being brutally honest would surely be chalked up as an American bias."

Does the author have something against Americans?

Isn't he just talking about the differences between American and Japanese society?

It is not needed but i would still read them because there are some things which are still interesting.

That's not all that insulting if that is what the author was going for, which I doubt. Its just the truth that Americans are much more direct on average, and that's not such a bad thing.

Stating what's true doesn't mean you have something against someone. Take sating "No", people will tell you "No" to your face here in the west. In Japan, China etc it's always "I'll think about it"

the Rozen family is taking a active step in countering the Chinese attempts to discredit magicians in Japan.

The United States is a low-context, individualistic culture: communication is more direct and the self is more highly valued than the group. Japan, on the other hand, is a high-context, collectivistic culture: communication is more indirect and the group is the top priority. Of course, there are value differences within co-cultures and even individuals, but this holds generally true.

This is ignoring the implications of how the Great Asian Alliance and the USNA are portrayed, but shounen series with a bit of philosophy and politics seems to require conflict that is reminiscent to the real world.

Yes this volume.
And is this the Vol. where the Rozen Family are asking Erika to marry Tatsuya of the FLT, correct?

This was a hot topic few pages back. Just some confirmation.

Please note the USNA is not the same political entity as the USA hence why it is only reminiscent of the real world. It ismade clear that there were a lot of changes due to the climate change and the discovory of magic which lead to nearly 30 years of war.

*snip*
... Why did you not post the page after that? Surely I'm not the only one that wants to see if/how Miyuki flip out at that scene?

Chapter 14 should be the party for Tatsuya birthday at Shizuku's place. After that he ruins Takuma and Maki moment and with a voice suspiciously like Christian Bale he says "I am Tatsuya".
.
So the duels (Takuma vs The Twins, Takuma vs Tomitsuka and Tomitsuka vs Tatsuya) would likely be in the last two chapters or even in the last chapter.
