I feel terrible for not noticing her absence. Poor, poor Akarin. The whole universe is bullying her. I really missed Chitose in last week's episode, so I'm glad she was back in perfect form in this one. She's so much fun.

I did notice instead, mostly because all the gags were (actually, are) running in circles. There are several established relationships and dynamics between the characters:
Chinatsu ---> Yui Yui <---> Kyouko Ayano <---> Kyouko Kyouko ----> Chinatsu Sakurako <---> Himawari Chitose ---> Ayano x Kyouko As you can see, Akarin doesn't fit anywhere in the pairings or triplets. Which in other words could mean that the series could easily move without her. Anyway, I also sympathize with her even though my keyboard probably doesn't. As soon as I wrote her name in this post the letters' format turned to Cyrillic alphabet so I had to close the browser and re-open it. (no kidding!)

Kyoko ---<3---> Chinatsu Ayano ---<3---> Kyoko Chinatsu ---<3<3---> Yui (all one-sided so far) Kyoko <---???---> Yui Tsun <---???---> Tsun Chitose ---???---> Ayano and so far, Akarin has no connection to the others. But I guess that will change soon. Besides, I find Akarin more memorable than Chinatsu, who has no distinguishing traits except for her crush on Yui-senpai which is less interesting than Akarin's complete lack of distinguishing traits (sounds contradictory lol)

...I could have sworn I was talking about someone else, too... ... Oh, yeah. Akari's gag is that she's unmemorable and doesn't stand out or have any protagonist qualities. Akari's gag is funnier than Chinatsu's gag, so she's a more interesting character in the abstract (modified, of course, by the writing of individual jokes). |

i just got through ep 3 and 4 and... guys you are reading my mind... i just wanted to post someting about: how everyone has their own role in the love story except Akari... Maybe Chitose is the one who is the another exception, because she just keeps fantasizing, and feels no love interest towards anyone... maybe later they will have a special relationship... maybe... as far as i read the manga(ch22) nothing will change... so that's the lineup... btw i'm becoming more and more familiar with it...

I also see Chinatsu as the less interesting of the characters so far, she's really bland and has no distinctive traits except the crush for Yui. At first she was presented as a potential magical girl cosplayer (not really my fetish, but it could have added to the fun), but there was no follow up to that. The only fun interactions she has are those with Kyouko, but thanks to the latter who's so full of win in each and every situation, including rejections.
I find Akarin more cute and fluffy, total klutz but sympathetic and more relatable. And of course, her running gag is kind of original both for concept and for how it's played. About the characters' dynamics: Chitose is best friend with Ayano, they're most likely osananajimi too. So far Chitose's only interest seems to picture illicit immoral relationships between Ayano and Kyouko. But I wouldn't be surprised if there will be more. Clearly, Chitose doesn't seem to show any jealousy (but she may be for open relationships), and Ayano's eyes are only set for Kyouko. But I do expect some development. The tsundere duo is priceless, but I'd like a 5% of dere between all that tsun. Kind of like the events episode 2. Episode 4 was tsun-tsun-tsun. Fun, but tsun. Yui and Kyouko: hard to tell, but they're certainly both very attached to each other. To what level, I don't know. It needs to be taken into account that Yui is the type who doesn't easily show her feelings, while Kyouko is enthusiastic and overhyped about almost everything. So they're not easy to read for opposite reasons. But they sure are in sync when the chance comes. Ayano and Kyouko: at the moment one-sided but I think it cannot be put on the same level of one-sidedness of Chinatsu-Yui and Kyouko-Chinatsu (which both seem played just for comedic purposes, and in any case both suffer a clear lack of depth). There's more in Ayano-Kyouko, first of all Kyouko not only does consider Ayano, but interacts with her more and more as time goes by. Secondly there's room for improvement, if Chitose's "previews" are any indications. Nah, jokes aside, Ayano-Kyouko is a growing relationship whereas Chinatsu-Yui and Kyouko-Chinatsu are stalled. The student council president: I hope she doesn't remain a ghost character and shows her face (in all senses) and her whimsicalness. I mean, she can't be immune, not in this scenario. Finally a word about the seiyuu: Fujita Saki is confirming as a fantastic tsundere, after her last important role which if I remember correctly was Mahiru in Working! Toyosaki Aki and Katou Emiri are veterans who never disappoint. Among the newbies, I'm liking Tsuda Minami (Yui - though I don't consider hers as a debut since she already had a major role, Phryne in Fractale), which seems to be adapt for mature/onee-san type of characters. Even if for very different and peculiar reasons, Phryne was more mature than her age as well. Shiny just like her character, is the 18 yo seiyuu for Kyouko, Ootsubo Yuka, who's doing considerably well imho, since Kyouko has many facets and it's not so easy to portray as it would seem.

It's funny how we automatically assume all the girls in this anime are lesbians, and what's even funnier is that's it's most likely the case. I wonder if males even exist in the YuruYuri verse Edit: holy crap, I figured out the easiest way for Akari can stand out! She needs to claim she's heterosexual! I also think Chinatsu is the least interesting character of the cast so far, and amazingly, even more bland that Akari. I hope she'll get her own quirk later on.

They are all clearly lesbians by their fantasies and love interests And what are males? Chinatsu is your resident whiny, manipulative bitch. She seems bland because she hasn't been given any screentime. In Akarin's case, the show goes at lengths to make us aware that she isn't getting any attention (and thus, gives her the attention) but Chinatsu has thus far been treated as a stock background character. No wonder everyone finds her uninteresting. Oh and just in case this show goes Hetero after all, I claim Yui for my waifu. |

Also I accidentally got spoiled about student council president and two other minor characters, but it just made me really hope they appear in the anime .

Wow, the mysterious Student Council President is mysterious. I was spoiled a bit that's why i noticed her. I doubt if more than 30% of the first-time viewer can realise there is one more person on this trip
Lots of Kyouko and Ayano's yuri fantasy this episode. So i am happy with Chitose on screen. However after last episode i think i am slowly switching my shipping. Kyouko have been so active keeping her antic around Chinatsu; but it's so adorable of her when her she became so jealous and sulking seeing Yui kissed someone else (and yes, i do think that it was because Yui kissed someone, rather than because Chinatsu is kissed). Typical jealous housewife. It is the same to Yui case too, i guess. I expected that she kept blocking Kyouko's move on Chinatsu because that sight irritate her, rather than because she want to protect Chinatsu Lol at the tsundere keeping their rivalry to the death. Don't play with fire through, so good job president. Chinatsu was quick to change her wish, but other than that she didn't stand out much so i think she has the least presence in this anime. Unless i forget something @Konakaga: no, delete your spoiler, you are spoiling my future fun source xD

Again with me forgetting notes about minor gags...
During the fireworks scene, I couldn't help but think "駆け巡れ! トーンのリング!" That Chinatsu is also the voice of the possibly-spoilery-but-not-in-the-context-of-this-thread Ako makes it even more amusing. Those fireworks have some amazing uptimes. Usually the light trails on them run out fairly quickly. Must be the power of love. |

Now - I just started watching this series. For the most part - I find it to be a crappy copy of K-ON. However, that character may be this series saving grace.
It's da crazyness!

Wow... girls doing girls thing and doing nothing at all but just lie around is equal to K-On now.... right >.>
K-On starts in 2007 and have an anime first with 2 seasons and yuruyuri starts in 2008 with the manga having 6 + volumes while K-On have 5 and a restart with a story that starts with college level.
