It's just that this group is being commissioned for a new role/tactics than the other groups currently do.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled something à la Chrono. He's a Belka-style mage and he has the best Enforcer of the TSAB as his sister and the commander of the warship Athra as a brother, so with that tutoring I would expect great things from him. Unless Chrono delivers him to the Lieze twins. I can already imagine it:

Chrono: Hi girls. It's been a while.
Lotte: Chrosuke! What are you doing here?
Aria: And who's the red-haired boy that follows you?
Chrono: Ah, sorry. This is Elio Mondial, my little brother.
Elio: Nice to meet you. My name is Elio Mondial.

Watching this episode made me feel a strange feeling in my tummy...

Maybe it's due to the fact that technically, all of those flying, generic looking TSAB officers with standard uniforms are more powerful than Teana and Subaru...

Or maybe my image of Genya is ruined when I saw him running/walking, and not flying to the accident scene. Well, I never really liked him to begin with, so it doesn't really matter, but still... Yuuno or Lindy didn't need devices to fly either. I'm being picky, but whatever. Graham >>> Genya

Or Subaru being oblivious of Lost Logias...Well, that or Nanoha and co. feels almost stalker-ish. I know the looking out from the window/observing from far thing is pretty common in anime for the "effect", but still...

Or maybe I'm getting Elio x Signum vibes more than Caro x Elio vibes... a ratio of 1 to 0.999~.

Or maybe because I keep asking myself "Why are thou trapped with book-arranging, Yuuno?" everytime I see Shamal flex her rings as a support mage. Same goes to Arf/Zafira.

I dunno. I'm just weird I suppose.

(The scene is Chrono's bunk. Chrono is reading on his bed as a knock is heard on his door.)

Erio (sweating): "What... must I do?"

(Chrono gets up and walks to his desk. Pulling out a drawer, he takes out a blueprint...)

Erio: "That's the girls' dormitory!"
Chrono: "Aye! And with you being their team-mate, you have special permission to access the compound within reason. It helps of course, that you are only ten years old. Nobody ever suspects a ten year old."
Erio: "This... This is impossible. If I ever get caught, it will be the end of me! Fate-neesama alone will kill me!"
Chrono: "Oh? I see... so that's how it is. *starts rolling up the blueprint* Such a pity. I guess this is where the spring of your youth ends, then."
Erio (wavering): "It's not that I don't want to... but..."
Chrono: "Not enough incentive? Really, kid. You drive a hard bargain. Tell you what. You do this for me, and not only will I arrange for more lessons with the Lieze-twins, I will throw in a business trip with them."
Erio: "Business trip?"

Hmm...I was under the personal impression that he is, considering his wife and 2 daughters are. Or maybe the magic runs in the XX-chromosome of the Nakajima bloodline, or whatever family name of the waifu Genya tapped. Whatever.

Just watched this episode, and I liked it more than episode 1, if only because of Hayate's (lack of) transformation scene, or because of Vita. I love how the grunts are gobsmacked by Hayate's magic. I love Vita's new uniform, and her non-emo professional demeanor while kicking ass. I look forward to her teaching the two newbies.

I got a strange vibe from the Nanoha / Fate exchange though. I wonder if anyone else feels like they will give Nanoha some incurable illness preventing her from releasing her full potential at critical moments, and make her a sort of TSAB Okita Souji.
It would even fit the pattern set by the AMF devices: StrikerS is set to reduce the old stars' magic effectiveness, so it's scarily believable that they would add another power check specially for Nanoha.
On the other hand, Nanoha could just have angry scars like her father, or even magical scars that hurt when exposed to magical radiation. (picturing a fist of the north star kenshiro/Grendizer Daisuke-Nanoha *ugh*)


About Hayate's mage rank, it's obvious you can be more powerful than your official rank shows, so if Hayate passed tests that Nanoha & Fate didn't even try, she could be ranked higher without being more likely to win in a fight.
However, from what I saw of her magic, she almost always adds a status affliction to the pure damage, and if RPG taught me one thing, it's that pure damage only goes so far, when a petrify/freeze (berserk/confuse/poison/sleep/stop?) can be an instant winner. Between Mistlestein and Starlight breaker, I would choose Mistlestein, even if I like Nanoha better (I wonder why I wasn't as annoyed by Hayate's weird way of speaking in A's).

Hayate mentions about that in their bed-scene (duh).
Riot Force 1 to 5 are oriented in dimentionwide search of Logia, in manner similer to that of Police or something.
While that's the basic method of searching Logia or some other dangerous material, they tend to be "slow" due to asking for permission from superior and such.
This is why Hayate wants to establish her troops, Riot Force 6, consists of small number of experts for more flexibility and specializes in tasks that requires quick responce and containment of the situation in short period of time.

...well, that's what I made out from Hayate's words in that scene.

All of your scenario's with Skane's got be thinking on an unusual crossover:

*Later, Fate visits Chrono's empty room to deliver a report.*

*Sees an unusual magazine in his bunk with a blonde haired bishounen with sexy scantily clad lusty women in the background entitled "The Playboy's Guide to Combat Techniques, Tactics and Strategy by Kurz Weber"*

*Activates Bardiche*

Fate: Chrono-niichan....

Anyway, having seen the episode, and with almost every point nitpicked, I'll just cover a few points:

- Love how Subaru and Teana have more comedic moments with each passing episode (butt-pinching = win).

- More on Midchilda architecture and technology, with some cool vehicles including the helicopter, Hayate's FCC (Forward Command Center), and the Fate-mobile

- What was that shield that was covering those three girls that Fate talked to in the airport, right before she covered them with Defensor Plus (on another note, Bardiche's voice is mind-blowingly awesome as always )

- "Sonic Move" = Best voices from Bardiche and Strada

- Elio is much more pimp than I imagined, and Carol lives up to her cuteness ^^

- "Schwalbe Fliegen" *cries manly tears of hotblood* And the Wolkenritter show that they still have style even after 10 years, even Signum, who didn't even kick ass this episode.

All in all, can't wait for the next ep

If my primitive understanding of Japanese is correct, the civilians were telling Fate that a girl mage shielded them before going off somewhere. That girl mage is Ginga, who was searching for her sister, Subaru. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.
