A Chinese Child’s Lung Cancer Is Linked to Pollution

An eight-year-old girl, living near a major road in the Jiangsu Province of Eastern China, has become the youngest person in China, and possibly in the world, to be diagnosed with lung cancer caused by pollution—the cause of her disease according to Chinese officials. And last month, the World Health Organization classified air pollution as a major human carcinogen.

A strip club has strippers. A Maid Cafe has a waiting staff that adapts a specific kind of persona while also performing their function as a waiting staff. It's not really different from some place like Hooters.

It's like China is saying "Give us the Spratlys and we'll give you billions of donations."

Chinese daily accuses Manila of ingratitude over $100,000 typhoon donation

Quote:
Guo Zhongshi, head of the department of journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University, said: "It is no surprise nowadays for Chinese official media to diverge from or openly contradict each other." Guo said it would be hard to tell whether it was coincidence that the two editorials conveying different messages came out on the same day. But "they are not to be taken at face value as evidence of two different camps regarding Chinese foreign policy towards the Philippines".

Du Ping, a commentator for Hong Kong-based private broadcaster Phoenix TV, said on air: "China should show sympathy and support even though Philippine President Aquino considers China an enemy." But he added: "China should not try too hard in making a gesture of generosity, or have any false expectation that hefty aid to the Philippines would repair bilateral ties in any way."

Wow Hongkong is trying to save there faces from a bad images. It shown there true color.

HK's sanctions threat unchanged

Quote:
The Chief Executive, C Y Leung, has indicated that the government won't lift the threat of sanctions against the Philippines in view of the devastation caused to the country by Typhoon Haiyan. Mr Leung said last week that sanctions will be imposed within a month, unless progress is made in talks over an official apology and compensation following the Manila bus hijacking three years ago. Mr Leung said the government sympathises with the victims of the storm, but stood by the threat of sanctions.

Since when are any nation have a minimum for aid? Especially a country that has no positive regards for its citizens? Also, in case no one noticed, China is also busy recovering from 700 million dollars worth of damages done by the same said hurricane.

And frankly, the Hong Kong situation is just what Hong Konger thinks. The total incompetence of the Philippine police force also made a lot of Hong Konger thinks Philippinos intentionally "fucked up" once they found out the tourist were Chinese. then bury the shooter with a Flag probably will tick a lot of people off.

Why is China doing so little to help the Philippines?

Quote:
As Peter Thal Larsen, Reuters bureau chief in Asia, pointed out on Twitter this morning, a bank (HSBC) has just offered a $1m in aid. That is ten times the $100,000 pledged so far by the Chinese government. In contrast, the US government has already offered $20m and America's armed forces are swinging into action. Australia's government has offered $10m and Britain a similar amount. Even the state-owned Chinese media – in the shape of the South China Morning Post – is questioning the stingy response by its country's government.
Quote:
As Slate points out, perhaps China is preoccupied responding in parts of its own country where the typhoon hit. But the damage there was nothing like as severe because the storm had lost some of its force by the time it landed.

Instead, the lack of help seems to be rooted in a territorial dispute between the governments of China and the Philippines. The modern, assertive Chinese state specialises in territorial disputes and bullying neighbouring countries who will not do what its Communist leadership wants. But you would hope that the carnage and human chaos in the Philippines might have prompted a suspension of normal service. Some neighbourly compassion wouldn't go amiss.

Come on, you know if America only gave $100,000 to Japan after the tsunami in March 2011, people would have flipped out. So China, the other great superpower in the world, in response to a neighboring country which might have been hit by the biggest storm in recorded history...gives out chump change. Don't try to justify what they are doing.

It's like, if some billionaire was like "Yeah, I give to the poor" and all he does is donate a few dozen boxes of food to a food pantry every month, yeah, that aid is nice, but you know he is capable of much more and that isn't what people expect when he says "I give to the poor".

This is why PRC is not a superpower. It does not have the mentality of one.

LOL.

What great power? If China gave alot, it would appear to try to bribe the Philippines. Within days, I bet you will see newpapers declare "do not trust China." China use "soft power" to influence another nation. Etc.

Since it will be spinned the worst way possible, why waste the money?

Furthermore, China just finished assessing its OWN damages of this hurricane. Why should it suddenly pledge a ton to a nation that is openly hostile to China? You don't see America rushing off to donate to Iran during its recent Earthquake right?

I know that theoretically, something is better than nothing, but if that's the tack you're going to take, they'd have been better off giving nothing. Giving so little seems deliberately insulting. It's not really the act of a great power.

Aids are not obligations. It is a choice last time I checked. There is no treaty saying any nation must receive x amount of aids during anything. Oh, where was America when cuba got hit by hurricane sandy? Still embargoes.

And for all we know, it could had been an error. It was not even days yet. Now that we get into international news over this, do u think anyone in china would want to donate?

It only shows that PRC is not worthy of being a leader. You either give are much as you can to your possibility or you give none. Such "face-saving" pitiful amounts are what unworthy countries do.

Of course, given that PRC is a hypocrite in its support of Confucianism, I didn't expect it to be a worthy country anyway.

The difference would seem to be that the United States doesn't pretend to be kind to countries it embargos (such as Cuba and Iran). But when its not an enemy nation, the US tends to provide during time of great disaster, if able.

I wonder how many times a US carrier or other warships have shown up to provide aid in a disaster? How often the Americans have sent tons of food to those with massive sudden need? Not even getting around to money. How often to the Americans actually act when disaster strikes?

I think ( but I could be mistaken) than the US do send help after big catastrophe, didn't they eve send help to Iran when one of their big city was badly hit by a earthquake ?

Edit: Dozens executed in North Korea 'for watching foreign films'

Well, to be fair, China did sent almost 9 million USD aid during Japan's 2011 earthquake, so it's not like they never send any aid(or only send little aid) to other country like what some of the poster here seems to imply. It might be that this case is special, or like Archmage said China is busy add the moment assesing their own damage and have to delay further aid until they've finished licking their own wound.
