Autumn 2008: Your Expectations and Anticipated Series
Autumn season is approaching rapidly so I decided to start the traditional expectations and anticipations thread. Below is the list of the upcoming TV anime. It has been compiled from various sources and it is likely that a few mere rumors slipped through. PM me if you find an error or have additions.
Go ahead, tell us your thoughts!
If you prefer a chronological list over an alphabetical then there's NeoSam's list, Anidb, ANN, and the Fansub Wiki. Finally, there is also THAT's autumn preview for additional information at a glance. OVAs need love too! Maybe I add them later. EDIT: Like, now.
And for completeness: movies. There is a Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann movie coming, a Biohazard (== Resident Evil) one, a Hokuto no Ken one, a Precure one, and a sequel to Genius Party.

Then again it might be completly childish and boring. Well, since it's a re-make of an old hit it's worth trying out at least. Quote:
Bah, why do I always fall for these girl with butchering knife anime. Quote:

I can only say that I'm looking forward to:
- Gekijouban Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Guren-hen - Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 2nd Season I probably have room for a few more anime in my time, so I might try: - Casshern SINS - Shikabane Hime: Aka - CHAOS;HEAD - Tytania And if I'm really desperate: - Kurogane no Linebarrel - CLANNAD and EF (I'm not into the romance/slice of life stuff too much) - Nodame Cantabile: Paris-Hen |

Chaos;Head!!!! I really love the story! I'm afraid that the adaptation will suck (come on, 13 episodes only...?), but I loved the VN. It's creepy, sinister, gruesome, the plot is quite complex, the OST is amazing (I hope they keep the Phantasm songs, they are so addicting!) and, oh, did I say creepy?? This really has huge potential to be awesome.
I am also interested in the Lucky Star OVA, Mouryou no Hako, VK Guilty, Kuroshitsuji, Toradora!, among many others. I think that this is a great, varied season. |

Sadly though, Kasai isn't directing Nodame Cantabile anymore (canned from his last 'failure'?). As such, I'm a bit apprehensive on how it'll turn out.
That said, I'm still looking forward to it, as the 2 leads are among my favourite seiyuus, most especially if they're together. Other notables: Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka - I'm a bit a sucker for arranged marriange stories Clannad After Story - need some closure Kannagi - yet another 'root for the osana-najimi' harem anime for me Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 2nd Season - can't wait to see if there's going to be a FeldtXSetsunaXIsmail love triangle (or even add psycho girl as well lol) Kyou no Go no Ni (TV) - I just want to see what the heck can they do when the entire manga has already been adapted Skip Beat! - always gives shoujo titles a chance Vampire Knight Guilty - loved Vampire Knight 1

What can I say?
Finally, there's a season that interests me. Seriously, the past 2-3 seasons went by without much interest from me, and I didn't even watch any anime from the last season until someone forced me to watch Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. I'll be looking forward to After Story and Nodame Cantabile. I don't know if I will like them. I hope I will like them. But at least I'm excited about them. I'll also follow Kyou no Go no Ni and re-watch ef so I can watch ef.

This season has the potential to top Spring '07 in terms of fan favourites. Every type of fan wins here.(from a cursory glance that is)
1. CLANNAD AS - Great game adaptation, so I share Klashikari's anticipation. 2. ef - a tale of memories - Surprise VN entry of last year, and yes it topped CLANNAD. Pretty sure this won't top CLANNAD AS though. Sorry ef people. 3. Gundam 00 - Are there even any dual moe-mecha fans out there? I really enjoyed the first, but it's kind of hard to see the Sunrise and Keyani camps constantly poking each other around these parts. Ugh 4. Linebarrel - I am not a Gonzo hater, and they have clearly shown when they actually put in effort, they can pull masterpiece series outta their rears effortlessly. And the cast and staff list gives hope for that. 5. Nodame Cantabile - Manga reader here. Though the lack of Kasai Kenichi is rather worrying... -Outliers- 1. Kannagi 2. Toradora ? Hmm.. |

Really looking forward to Clannad After Story and Tales of the Abyss.
To a lesser extent, I am also interested in seeing ef - a tale of melodies. After that, I'll start looking at a few first episodes to see if anything else warrants my attention.

Just from the sheer number of sequels that are available, I know there'll be several shows I'm going to enjoy.
I'm very excited about Clannad and Jigoku Shoujo in particular, as I've enjoyed the earlier installments immensely. Vampire Knight, Ef, and (I'm ashamed to say it) Rosario to Vampire will also be on my watch list. Probably Penguin Musume too. The rest of the sequels are unfortunately out of the question as of now, as I haven't seen the earlier installments to any of them. (Not at all of them necessarily interest me in the first place.) As usual, I know close to nothing about any of the non-sequel shows that are starting, due to my complete ignorance of any source material. I'll be checking out a whole lot, and by the looks of it, probably sticking with a handful or more. Looks to be an interesting season, but my first impressions are hardly worth putting any stock in. More often than not, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Quote:
Also, props to Slice of Life for putting this together.

Despite me disagreeing with Kaioshin Sama opinions half of the time, I can appreciate and share his love for Legend of the Galactic Heroes. /adds Tifanya to his watch list with a "high priority, wath as the RAWs come out" tag. Though the fact that the novels are unfinished makes me feel it will share the fate of Juuni Kokki.
On the obvious side, I will watch Nodame Cantabile, ef, CLANNAD AS. Kyou no Go no Ni and ToraDora. Maybe having read the novels instead of reading the manga gave a different view of it /me typed this post while hearing to CaramellDansen. If you find any spots that don't make any sense whatsoever you know what to blame.

Just for Fall season (Winter is still far off... *looks out the window*)
Watch, at full ability!!: Kannagi - Love this manga. Hope the anime does it justice. Toaru Majutsu no Index - As far as I've seen, it's pretty good. JC Staff, of all things, worry me, but it'll be fine... I hope. Mikoto~~~~~~~ ----- Watch: Jigoku Shojo 3 - Watched the whole last two seasons a few weeks ago... Ready for the continuation. Looking forward to this! Toradora - Replacing Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu for super stereotypical anime of the season, let's see how annoying Kugimiya's voice makes Taiga. JC Staff again, but no worries here. -Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka - Animation looks good. Story looks bland. Let's see then. -Clannad ~After Story~ Something bad's going to happen in this, isn't it, oi... Never understood why this is so popular, but it was decently good (the first season). -Rosario+Vampire 2 - Why are you back...? Whatever... Saw the first season, might as well see the next -Tales of the Abyss - At least it isn't OVA format like Symphonia. Never played the game, like Tales games (to a point), so interested (to a point) in this. -Garei -Zero- Original story is completely removed, but we'll see... -ef ~a tale of melodies~ Ah-ah, knew this was going to come back. Wasn't as impressed as most people with the first season, but it was good and all, so let's see... At least for now, I'll expect lots of strange drama and perverts (lolicon and some girl who seems to be naked at school?) -Chaos Head - Looks interesting. Also looks like some teenagers have supernatural weapons shonen series. Pretty interested in this one. Hope it does good. -Vampire Knight Guilty - Really don't know why this is so popular. Overdramatic and everything... Watching second season to see what happens next. -Shikabane Hime - Looks good for now. Might turn out entertaining. --- Maybe: -Hyakko - Don't know... Maybe it'll turn out to be like Potemayo, which looked kiddish, but ended up being really funny -Kyou no Go no Ni - I'd like to put this in the watch section, but I'm skeptical on how this show is going to be... --- Not: -Nodame Cantabile 2 - Tried to go through the first season. Gave up half-way, not picking it up or this either -Anything else I don't try remembering exists

To add my own expectations, at the moment I can only say what I don't want to see. Out of the (... counts ...) 45 TV productions there are 10 sequels I won't watch, namely ...
Clannad, ef, Hokuto no Ken, Junjou Romantica, Gundam 00, Kyou no Go no Ni, Nodame Cantabile, Noramimi, Penguin Musume Heart, Rosario to Vampire. Away goes the kids' and otherwise strange stuff ... Battle Spirits, Mach Girl, Negi-Bouzu no Asatarou, Netsusou, Stitch. ... and the sports anime ... Inazuma Eleven, One Outs. Still 28 anime left to check out. *sigh* After dropping stuff left and right I'll probably end up with 15ish as usual.
