Shrug. People here generally talk about things outside my interest now. My work is pretty much for my eyes only after I realized no one found them interesting enough to comment on.

Also, that kid has it tough. No joke, girls can be pretty horrible and insensitive beings. And that's added to theidea you always have to tread lightly because their feelings and ego are like eggshells.

Not bashing on women. Just saying it's like they don't really care about you but you really have to watch what you say and do around them.

Character Briefing:
--The oldest of 3 sons born into a family well known for producing promising soldiers and commanders since early 20th century (in my idea, the whole IS story takes place in late 2030s to early 2040s). Joined PLA at the age of 16 by lying about his age, and was quickly found by the superiors to be a superb adapter to battlefield environments. Was recruited at a record-low age by the aforementioned special operation batallion, and succeeded its former commander when he was KIA. Was remarkable in a series of battles against terrorists and separatist forces. He was however, a less-than-satisfactory communicator to strangers, and was particularly bad at expressing his own feelings. Was also known for butting heads with superiors occasionally, and to put it simply, a bit of a wild card and maverick.

My story has not passed the prologue part yet, in which my lieutenant colonel guy suffered a crushing defeat that costed him his entire unit, all for being a determinator and military maverick.

Then again, Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great were great military achievers before they turned 30.

I wish to make this OC a foil to Ichika. Trust me, they are both fighting for the good side, it's just that they are opposites, that's all. I can share some of my speculations on him:
--Ichika likes to crack jokes (although only Kanzashi liked them); this guy doesn't.
--Ichika is more idealistic; this guy is more cynical.
--Ichika is still much of a wartime pacifist; this guy thinks the military arm is the only good arm during wartimes.
--Ichika is more social; this guy is more socially secluded.
--Ichika thinks a simple defeat will do for the enemies; this guys won't stop until every SINGLE enemy is mincemeat.
--Ichika's attacks are not unlike rapier thrusts or precise kanata strikes; this guy lets momentum do the work and throws every attack like a sledgehammer or a guandao.
--Ichika has at least some sensitive sides; this guy...well, subtlety was almost never his thing.
Any other ideas and suggestions based on my characterization?

A foil doesn't have to be a direct opposite. The most important part is that they aren't yes-men to the main character and privide an alternative viewpoint which supply quandaries that must be resolved, usually to the effect of character growth

So foils don't have to be exact opposites? I see, thanks.
Basically, he (and other OCs) exists to prove that the world is not at all sugar and spice and everything nice since the invention of IS (yes Izuru you bastard, YOU failed to touch on that!), especially when he hails from a culture which was still very much male-centered, despite there's this Mao fellow producing famous lines such as "women hold up half the sky'.
And also with a handful of OCs, he is there to induce further character growth, both with the canon characters and among themselves.
Speaking of canon characters, there is a fellow Chinese character I would like to elaborate on (she only appeared for a few lines in Vol. 6).

She is Yang Lili, Rin's instructor and guardian of sorts for the Chinese Representative Cadet. I get the feelings that she is more than an authority figure for Rin, or at least wants to work not just as one.

And yes, I intend to tear apart Ichika's harem--after Ichika FINALLY takes his pick, that is--why do you even bother to ask?

I don't remember too much about Rin's guardian. She was only in a phonecall with no physical description.

The OC can also believe in the positive if the protagonist is a grim anti-hero type. Again there is contrast but not exactly complete opposite. It could be that the hero is kind but straight-forward but his foil is just as kind but more careful and mindful of the things he does. Like if a violent solution or just giving things up is the best path.

I'm guessing he'll pick Houki.
