My friend : You guys are fucking sadists to like the part where Ender sacrifices his team to obliterate the enemy. Heck, you guys are fucking sadists to even like that story!

Although this comment has been made a few years ago, do you agree that he should be gutted?

Do you mean the battle he had during battle school? That's an odd thing to get worked up over, considering that within the confines of the war games (where nobody actually died) it was a perfectly valid strategy.

Ender employing it latter is horrific, though keep in mind that even then he didn't realize that the *final exams* that he had were for real, rather than being preparation for the real deal.

Yeah that guy was worked up because we didn't tell him the full story, so we simply glorified that part.

And I thought it was THE defining moment in that story. When he realised that everything he had done for himself and others was for naught.

i thought the key point was when Ender decided he need to go Sherman on his enemies.

I really hope the movie keep those 2 parts in and not whitewash them.

The point was that Ender needed to be able to selectively treat his men as expendable assets. Sherman didn't use his soldiers as kamikaze.

For those who don't want to watch all 32 minutes, some highlights:

Spoiler for Just in case:

* Battle Room scenes were changed, and the director hopes the seemingly drastic change still conveys the spirit of those scenes.
* The kids had to do a hybrid space/boot camp prior to shooting, to get them used to how they should move in space and life in a military academy.
* They had to take liberties with how they conveyed many of those conversations that famously started each chapter within the book.
* A lot of the space station was an actual set
* Asa had fun playing a character with "darker moments"
* They're well aware that this is a severely beloved book
* The Director saying he's bored with stock "here's the good guys, here's the bad guys", and he liked the moral ambiguity of this movie

Book readers will be sure to see one change already (from what I hear, it was with Card's blessing). In fact, book lovers will know that Card has repeatedly shot down effort after effort to make a movie out of this book, but gave this one his blessing, so here's hoping!

Also, it's easy to make fun of, but that's a lot of Academy Award Nominees.

If you're a book reader, perhaps? Who knows what changes they made, however. If you're not a book reader, you wouldn't have any idea of what's a spoiler, so...it seems like a pointless question. That said, the safe money would be that it was NOT the ending. Edit: Asa didn't straight out say, but he did insinuate in his ad-hoc AMA on Reddit that it is related to the scene book readers think it is, but he also basically said what I said about having to be a book reader to have any frame of reference for that scene.

A big over his admitting to being poor at Starcraft (and the inevitable ribbing that remark caused, considering....).

Some interesting tidbits about the movie, though the thread itself has spoilers galore for those who haven't read the books.

He's obviously biased, but he's now on record for saying:

When I first got the role, I said to my mum. 'If there is one thing I want to accomplish by doing this, it is to make the lovers of the book happy. I don't want it to be another Hollywood sci-fi piece of shit'. And from what I've seen so far, I can tell you that it is incredible.

Though he admits he hasn't seen the final cut.

Honestly I think that sets a bad precedent.

Reason is that as Liongates says, the movie has nothing to do with the gay community at all. It's a simple story about a boy who is forged by humanity to fight against the alien invaders.

I mean I don't mind watching Tom Cruises movies. Granted he's weird and all with his scientology but his movies are still good.

I mean if Liongates starts picking directors and workers simply because of their beliefs that's just discrimination the other way as well. IMO if they can a good job then let them to do it regardless of their skin color, beliefs, and sexuality. And also what does that say about the thousands of people that work in the film? Do they all have to be screened then?

"A couple months ago "Ender's Game" had the taint of bad buzz. The big-budget
sci-fi film adapted from Orson Scott Card's 1985 novel seemed all but doomed under
the weight of controversy involving Card's outspoken anti-gay views.

It hasn't helped that recent young adult book-to-screen adaptations such as
"Beautiful Creatures," "The Host," and "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" have
all flopped pretty hard at the box office.

But the early reviews are in and, while Summit might not quite have its new
"Twilight," things are definitely looking up."

I read somewhere that the twist in the book is known outright at the beginning of the movie, and the conflict relies on Ender not being aware of it as the movie goes on.
