One Piece - Chapter 857 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread GuidelineBriefs
Okay, we're back in business! Credit goes to AP's Redon for the spoiler: -Chapter title is "Rook". Splash page features Hancock. -Chopper's group finally manages to meet up with Luffy and Sanji through a mirror left on the ground. They bring each other up to speed on the situation, which ends with Luffy announcing that they'll crash the wedding. Jinbei warns the group that the ministers aren't the only forces to watch out for if they really plan to go through with this.... as many underworld bosses from around the world will be in attendance, as well. However, Jinbei wants to focus on one underground boss in particular: Capone Gang Bege! -Jinbei delves a bit into Capone's background: In West Blue, he was one of the top five mafia crimelords who controlled the underworld there. As it turns out, he was one vicious bastard who enjoyed decapitating animals for fun! And his sick hobby didn't just apply to little critters..... as he targeted the other mob bosses' heads, as well! Oddly, he wasn't even interested in stealing their territory. What's more, he would lure those seeking revenge on him into his castle, kill those individuals, and ridicule them for dying a dog's death....!!! -As Capone was still being chased by the avengers of his murder victims, he eventually found a perfect cover as one of Big Mom's cronies. Upon proving his worth to the Yonkou, he was designated as a "Rook" of her army, giving him full authority of the defensive forces! However, Capone seeks to fulfill his own agenda with his newfound authority: He plans to take Big Mom's HEAD! After finishing his story, Jinbei then makes a startling proposal: FORMING AN ALLIANCE WITH CAPONE!!!! His reasoning is that they should work together since they have a common enemy (Big Mom). Interestingly, Luffy agrees to the proposal! -Jinbei says that both crews will meet once he gets in contact with Capone. Speaking of the mobster pirate, we see him at his base. He considers Jinbei's alliance proposal a good idea, since the more people there are to oppose Big Mom, the better. Apparently, he's curious as to how Luffy will react when they meet, and is considering killing the rubber man if he dislikes him....!!!! Last edited by marvelB; 2017-03-02 at 21:04. |

I don't get it... Capone already saw Straw Hats as the most craziest pirates in his lifetime and why he want to kill Luffy if he dislikes him anyway?
There's no one crazier than Straw Hats when it comes to trouble. |

Since they are Supernovas i think when they are reunited they will have some chat first regarding of two years itself not to mention Capone never seen Rayleigh before so i think Capone will be surprised to see Luffy is the apprentice of Rayleigh.

Luffy is actually a lot sharper and wittier than you might think
He easily caught Vivi when she was hiding something, and last chapter with Sanji's BS and yeah, he did ally himself with Crocodile to escape Impel Down All in all, Luffy is a type of guy that gets the job done..... if he feels like it that is

i have to admit, that pic with Capone on the chair surrounded by his henchmen looks pretty cool
and people forget luffy's weird ability to judge people... remember, he picked robin up when no one wanted and worked with law when everyone else objected, etc...

aaahh I love this development...
considering how crazy Luffy-Law alliance before, I can expect something similar will happen when two supernovas joined hands Luffy is really used his brain to do this... or probably he trusted Jinbei too much |

Not a bad move. Rather than recklessly charging in (although that might still happen) making use of temporary allies isn't bad. They have a difficult goal, a difficult opponent, and a lot of people to worry about. Not to mention they aren't at full strength without Zoro. So covering for that with help (even somewhat unlikable help) has merits.
Plus will be fun to see Luffy try to make this negotiation work .
