The Japanese are weird with their English spelling of alien words. In show they always pronoun it Gamilas. Also "Gar Gamilon" from the General at Balun.

I am not going to nitpick to much about it. The change never bothered me much.

It should be noted that even with this happening, starblazers.com is still silent since 2014.

For those that have seen it, how did they translate the space kilometers into megameters? Did they do a conversion (1 Mm = 1,000 km) or did they make 1 Megameter equal to a space kilometer?

Yeah, I noticed that as well on my blu-rays I ordered from Japan. I thought it was weird at the time, but came to the conclusion that that was what was they finally settled on for the spelling.

I was just watching the dub again and I noticed at 14:48 that there is a hand drawn picture of Yamato on the bulletin board never noticed it before it is a 14:41 in the japanese version. I could be wrong but I am sure it is.

Directly from the Japanese「ガミラス」is "Gamirasu/Gamilasu" (with the final "u" rendered silent). For SBY2199, Supervising Director Yutaka Izubuchi had his own ideas for rendering the names in romanized characters. Since the root of the name "Gamilas" comes from the Japanese rendering of "Carmilla" (カーミラ) - a literary character - Izubuchi, after seeing what the English Subtitlers for SBY2199 were doing, insisted that the name should be rendered as "Garmillas" - and the English rendering was changed in later editions (and in publications and other media, such as model box packaging). For the North American release, the Japanese producers, Voyager Entertainment, have gone back to the less cumbersome (and phonetically "truer") rendering of "Gamilas."

One thing they seriously need to do is advertise.

I just finished watching episode 2 and it is looking good. The dub is pretty good and sticks close to the original. When they fire at the Planet Bomb Okita says "Open Fire Full Bore". The Gamilans are using the same language, which is double subbed in Japanese and English.

I am only watching the Eng. dub of this version. In the dub, Yuki is played by Mallorie Rodak who has actually played a few other characters with "Yuki" in the name: Yukino ("Fairy Tail"), Shigure Yukimi ("Owari no Serap"), and Miyuki Kujō ("Shomin Sample").

The dubbing for this show seems to be fairly well received. Last we was episode 16 (Beelandia and the mutiny).

If not for the way they slaughtered the Garmillan language dialogue, this would be a pretty decent dub. Unfortunately, they only kept a few of the more used expressions like Ghare, Zar Belk or Ilun Phuzeron, while the rest is just giberish. Although the original Garmillan might sound like giberish to many, it was actually done by language experts in order to make it as authentic as a made up alien language can be. All that work was thrown out the window. How hard would it be to use the original dialogue? I can deliver several Garmillan speeches by heart, and Funimation couldn't pull it off?
