Doubt that would do much. It took absolutely everything Mr. Defense Specialist had to block the blast and it was only just BARELY enough.

There was a massive rocky outcrop, roughly twice the height of the surrounding trees, with a tunnel that led into the center of it. The cavern that they reached was open to the sky above them, however my guesstimate on how things looked was that the opening was roughly the size of the patch of land that Naofumi protected everyone in (so 12-35 ft/3-10 m, depending on perspective).

Given that the overall size of the blast that hit Naofumi was roughly 10x the size of the area he protected, the blast that will have hit the outcropping will have the vast majority of the energy absorbed by the outcropping itself, with only a small portion of it pouring through the opening. As such, as long as Ren and Itsuki and their teams can get back into the tunnel, and maybe get some magical shielding up, they're moderately likely to survive.

The greatest risk for them would be if the tunnel itself collapsed, trapping them inside the cavern area, which is likely to be lava-fied from the attack. A large portion of the outcrop is likely to have been vaporized in the attack. It's entirely believable that the attack could have killed them (thus the Pope's confidence that they did so), but it's also entirely believable that they'd be shielded enough to survive (but only due to Itsuki noticing the threat, and giving them a chance to take cover), even if it took them some time to dig themselves out.

Nice episode but am I the only one who felt like the animation was kinda lazy? I get it because it was pure action but the studio didn't try to hide it at all. Too much spent on the Heroes clashing, energy being sent, etc. For a second it felt like the Seiya Inferno OVAs

That look Fitoria gave Filo. "Did I just make the next queen of our race the Shield Hero's horse?" .

It's nice to see that Melty's traveling with Naofumi and seeing what he has to go through has shifted her perspective on things. No need to save face or cause yourself trouble when you can just avoid it all together .

Motoyasu...it feels like he's kind of stuck in "main character" mode where he's so convinced he's the hero and has these trustworthy companions (because that's what all heroic heroes have) that everything in his life has to fit around that kind of binary, black/white, perspective. I guess from that angle, and from the fact that he's obviously being manipulated and lied too, I can sympathize with him a little. But at the same time he comes off so foolish and self-righteous that it's really hard to want anything more then for Naofumi to sock him in the jaw or Filo to kick him in the balls again .

Naofumi and his party vs. Motoyasu and his party was pretty cool, and we got see more of Motoyasu's party not named Myne do stuff (although dancer girl didn't really do any dancing...). Although they still couldn't hold a candle to the teamwork and skill of Naofumi and team .

Are we to assume Motoyasu and his party have gotten class upgrades by this point? He's a higher level then Naofumi and I don't think it would make sense for him to be so surprised at their getting beaten by that metric unless Naofumi's party had beaten an upgraded Motoyasu's party .

So Myne got played by the church, if she really was going along with their conspiracy up to this point. Couldn't have happened to a nicer girl. And she keeps saying she's the next queen while Melty is practically right next to her. How transparent can you get, lady ?

"Shut up, sister!" How long has Melty been holding that one in ?

I can't fault the church for citing the failures of the Heroes and how bad the state of the kingdom would be with Malty in charge, although assassinating the Heroes for discovering the "truth" and complaining about the Shield Hero not thanking you for the Holy Water you begrudgingly gave him is a bit much .

The possibility of another villain was brought up a few episodes ago, looks like there really were other people who aren't with Myne and is also against Nao and company.

Any scene with Motoyasu in it is always irritating, even if he ends up joining Nao after this I don't think he'll change and become smarter in a span of a few episodes

Also, why is everyone suddenly all about "let's kill these 4 idiots and summon another group"? Fitoria wants to kill them, this pope wants to kill them, the wave wants to kill them!

I'm not convinced Malty's being used by the church, she's been acting out of her own self interest all this time, I'm sure Malty will find a way to control the church before the end of this series, it's in the OP after all

Knowing what is to come I honestly wonder how they want to wrap everything up in just 7 more episodes.

Exactly my same impression, he is one of those irritating MC that don't follow the logic, but the "heart" and everything bends over them whatever. When in a pinch screaming his love for his lost friends would have made him power up, it didn't happen just because he is not the MC he probably was used to see in games and anime.
On that I can understand him, he became the hero, he "got" the princess, the money, he is blessed by the king, if we saw him as a true MC why he should doubt his friends. As been the true MC he would have come out as very loyal to his friends and Naofumi would have been really the culprit despite having spent days in a different country with the Fitoria .

Well, I think they certainly have, otherwise making Naofumi not upgrade would lose meaning.

In all fairness from the subs the sentence was generic, so she could have been talking of her sister.

That blast reminded me of Unicorn. Shields making barrier

She said "and the next queen, me" in Japanese.

Maybe you wanted the plot to be more clever than it was? This show was praised for deep plot but I know too well not to expect something of Mistborn caliber from ordinary show.

Ren's party was around level 50 during the last Wave, so presumably Motoyasu and Itsuki's parties have likewise gotten their upgrades.

Motoyasu DID say "they haven't even class-upped yet", which seems to suggest that his party probably has.

You have to get the class upgrade to get beyond lvl 40 remember? All the other teams are lvl 40+ therefore they must of gotten the class upgrade.

Well Motoyasu is the Isekai Protagonist when you take their tropes and crank them all the way up to the MAX at all times. It's somewhat of a deconstruction how annoying a person like that would be. Heck this series itself is in a way to a milder extent. It goes out of it's way to stress this is an actual world, not your favorite RPG come to life that exists for your entertainment and pleasure.

Kind of another spin on Log Horizon, then.

Which is incredibly ironic since the world itself follows the rules of an RPG.

Motoyasu is a VN protagonist; more like shiro from fate or makoto from school days.
Ren is kirito.
Itsuki is a manga protagonist.

I'd say he's not so much "a LN/VN/RPG protagonist" as "a guy who thinks he is one and tries to play the part". And just as how series that try to copy other series often copy the superficial elements while ignoring what made them really work, he tends to "look" the part without hitting the right notes to actually pull it off.

My only fear now is that now that Myne is a target of the Church she might end up cooperating with Naofumi, coming to terms with him and so depriving us of seeing his rightful revenge and her suffering.

Yeah that one doesn't seem likely. That would require Myne to admit she was wrong.

I can see Hell freezing over first before that happens.

That's not even counting Nafoumi's response.

Indeed. Reconciliation would require that she admit to the false accusation and all the other lies she told about him, which would seriously damage her position. She seems to always think in terms of immediate benefit, so no matter what sort of benefit she'd gain long-term she wouldn't be able to bear giving a single inch.
